Drill America 1/16"-27 NPT Pipe Tap , Carbon Steel, DWTPT Series

This is a must have product if you have a Suburban water heater in your RV. I always remove the anode rod and drain the water from my water heater after each trip. The threaded hole will eventually become quite corroded making it impossible to get a good seal over time when the anode is re-insered and tightened. This tap cleaned the threads up nicely with little effort.

Worked great on PVC waste/drain line. Created a smooth female thread that I used to screw in a mptXpvc adapter for a drain line.

Great price and can't find better deal anywhere.

If you are rethreading a wate drain pipe. You will save your self a LOT of money. For the alternative it to block out the wall cut off the water, in an apartement building you WILL affect the upper floors and they can not use their sink till you done. So it is hard work turing the tap. Use a pipe wrench. Use transmission fluid for a lubricant. Turn it a 1/4 turn back it off clean the tap and be very careful retreading it back onto the treads. You need a min. of 3 1/2 threads with a goal as close to 5-6 threads deep. MOST IMPORTANT when treading the sink pipe into the wall use pipe dope and pip tape. Put it ONLY on the new pipe never into the the pipe you have threaded.

First off, this came in a nice box to protect the tap threads. Very heavy duty and did the job needed at the time. Don't be afraid of this one as it is solid an a great investment for future problems.

my water heater was leaking due to, it turned out, heavy calcifications blocking the expansion tank. i cleaned them out as much as possible and tried to thread a new expansion tank into the brass female fitting and it wouldn’t seat all the way plus stripped some of the pipe threads, so it continued to leak. the deposits were literally rock hard and wouldn’t come out even with clr and a wire brush. i was prepared to have to have a plumber come out and weld a new fitting, but it took maybe five minutes with this tool to clean it out and refine the threads. the sediment and brass shavings went into the concavities so they didn’t fall into the tank. i’ve never worked on a water heater in my life so thanks to youtube and amazon, i easily saved myself several hundred dollars in plumbing costs.

This is a quality carbon steel tap. Just out of curiosity I tested it to see how hard it is and found it to Rockwell at 60. You can’t do better other than purchasing a high speed steel tap at 3-5X the cost!
