The rise of the modern footballer as multi-millionaire superstar can arguably be traced to the emergence in the 1960s of one George Best. Best combined dishevelled good looks, supreme talent and a rock n roll lifestyle that made him the first in what has since become a long line of players whose antics have become big news. Genius, Maverick, Legend, George Best is perhaps the most talented footballer ever to walk the face of the earth. Best was the best: Pele, Cruyff, Maradona - all were superb but Best had their talent and more. George Best had the confidence and arrogance to try absolutely anything - he knew he was a genius and was not afraid to show the world. He revelled in the limelight but as the first of the new superstars, found himself unable to cope with the temptations thrown at his feet. Alcohol, late nights & women. He indulged in them all and as a result walked out of top class professional football in 1972 aged just 26. In this unique insight George takes us back to his early years where we meet some of the characters who had an impact on his life. These include Tommy Docherty, Alex Stepney, Jim Ryan, Dick Best, Alex Best and Sir Bobby Charlton. Then its off to Old Trafford, Manchester for which he will always be remembered. But its all the goals and the action which really make this one the Best.

George Best
This is a must see for any football (soccer) fan. In my opinion Best was the most talented player. A sad life though.

Glossy but not great
If you're a fan, you'll want this. It's a nice memento to look back on since George's death. It's slick and nicely produced. But if you're looking for any insight into the man and the player, this DVD will leave you short. The DVD is mostly a resume of George's time at Manchester United; it's not a biography. It's bolstered by interviews in the style of gentle reminiscences by old men in their armchairs with a nod to the fact that he was a bit of a lad without raking up too much controversy. There are 50 goals but not all of the best. Best was firey and passinate when he played; the DVD is gentle. After you've watched it, if you didn't live through the Best era, you'll grant that he was obviously a good player but you'll still be wondering what all the fuss was about.

'SIMPLY THE BEST', FOTBALLING TALENT TO DATE
GOOD STORY ABOUT GEORGE WHO WAS SO TALENTED AND CHARISMATIC BUT SADLY LACKED THE STRENGTH AND DISCIPLINE TO MODERATE HIS DRINKING. IM SURE HE ENJOYED HIS LIFE THOUGH AND HAD A LIFESTYLE AND EXPERIENCES OTHERS CAN ONLY DREAM OF
