ERRORS THAT COULD fail you in boards.
I love this book. but it is not without errors. So don't follow it religiously. Also first aid 2014 has no mention of this book( in its top rated review books section). But I am using it anyway to consolidate what I am reading in lippincott's pharmacology. Lots of questions. When ever you read an explanation. Use keywords to look it up in ebook of pharm for more details. And that is how I found the following error and i guess there's more to come in this book.I have spotted serious TECHNICAL ERRORS in a few questions.Goto Neuropharmacology.Open the questiona 38 year old woman presents to the ophthalmologist.......immediately given to the patient? (pilocarpine overdose).Pay close attention to the EXPLANATION. It is totally wrong.Carbachol is a cholinergic agonist (not an anti-cholinergic agent.)Similarly(donepezil, galantamine, rivastigmine) are cholinergic agonists(acetylcholinesterases) NOT anti-cholinergic agonist.Similarly, I found errors else where too and I have solved only around 30 questions of the book.So be very careful when you are studying this.USe following as reference :lippincott's pharmacology (4th edition)F. Tacrine, donepezil, rivastigmine, and galantamineAs mentioned above, patients with Alzheimer's disease have a deficiency of cholinergic neurons in the CNS. This observation led to the development of anticholinesterases as possible remedies for the loss of cognitive function. Tacrine [TAK-reen] was the first to become available, but it has been replaced by the others because of its hepatotoxicity. Despite the ability of donepezil [doe-NEP-e-zil], rivastigmine [ri-va-STIG-meen], and galantamine [gaa-LAN-ta-meen] to delay the progression of the disease, none can stop its progression. Gastrointestinal distress is their primary adverse effect (see p. 102).
