I don’t think I can answer that, honestly I’m not sure anyone can, but I’ll give you my personal experience with both. I had the mitutoyo 8” digimatics for about 11 years and they served me well, but with quite a bit of use in less than optimal environments, they started to become a little sloppy and I was having a tough time getting repeat measurements, so I decided to try out these starrett 8” calipers which were a little more in price. As soon as I took them out of the box I noticed how smooth the action was and once I put them to use I noticed how much easier they were to get repeat measurements, this could be due to the fact that I had a wore out pair of mitutoyo’s, but honestly I wouldn’t go back and thats personal preference I’m sure. But I am very pleased with the performance and have no regrets spending the extra money on this amazing tool. I’d highly recommend getting these if you’re on the fence between the two.

This is an excellent digital caliper. It consistently returns to zero and hold .001 inch accuracy. I wish I had purchased it a long time ago. The only drawback is price. This kind of quality however demands a higher price and this caliper is well worth the cost.
