Excellent Quality Spoons! 2014 UPDATE!
The name Berard is synonymous with excellent quality and this wooden spatula fits that description perfectly. This handmade olive wood spatula is simply beautiful; the scoop part is very thick and big with a sturdy handle yet the spatula is light in your hands. It came lightly oiled with a beautiful finish - which after multiple uses lost some of that shiny satiny finish after washing. The manufacturer recommends using mineral oil/beeswax to preserve the quality of the wood and I agree with that suggestion. I use a natural beeswax polish and it pops right back after buffing. One thing to note is that the spoon measures exactly 12 inches in total length (including the handle), and not the 12.5 inches as advertised here, (but this takes nothing away from the use of the item itself). All in all this is a very sturdy spoon and can handle a range of tasks from heavy batter to light and fluffy scrambled eggs and omelets. The best part is that every thing washes off completely and it doesn't stain - not even when used to make blueberry jams/jellies!!!!It compliments the Berard French Olive Wood 13-Inch Handcrafted Wood Spoon, Terra Collection perfectly! Both work wonderfully in cast iron enamel dutch ovens. All in all this is a very sturdy spoon and can handle a range of tasks from working with heavy batter (cakes, breads), to soups and sauces. The best part is that every thing washes off completely and it doesn't stain - not even when used to make blueberry jams/jellies!!!!*** May 2014 UPDATE! ***I recently purchased an additional spoon and was somewhat dissatisfied with the quality that I returned it. This new spoon came with a "Berard France" logo that was imprinted on the tip of the handle (previous ones did not). This spoon had the same beautiful satin finish and did correctly measure 12.8 inches! However, the tag attached to it said that it was made in Albania! What was even more disappointing, was that the bowl of the spoon showed signs of splitting in the wood grain. As a result of these findings I can no longer recommend Berard spoons, especially due to the costs and the lack of quality control.

Beautiful Wood and a Great Handle!
Beautiful wood and a great shape. I love the thick, rounded handle, which is extremely comfortable to hold and unlike any other spatula I've seen. I believe this Berard Terra collection may all have the rounded handle. The wood grain is beautiful, but the spatula does need mineral oil applied to it regularly. It seemed rather dry on arrival. I put my Boos block oil and cream on it and it looks revived and beautiful, and to keep this looking nice I can see I will need to rub it with the mineral oil somewhat frequently. Pricey for sure, but I felt it was worth it. The Berard name is burned into the handle, and the tag said it was French but made in Albania. Guess the French also like to outsource now.

Gorgeous and useful
This is my second Berard Olive Wood utensil, and it is every bit as beautiful as the first. I am enamored of the grain on the piece I received; it swirls down the handle and trails to the back of the spatula. There is also a bit of dark grain on the front of the spatula too.Make sure you oil these every so often! Wood utensils and boards can and will dry out if you don't maintain them.

Great Kitchen Tool
Originally purchased thinking this was a flat spatula, but it has a somewhat narrow, angled edge. Turns out my wife loves it. It gets used more than just about any of our other olive wood cooking utensils. The angle of the edge plus its thickness makes it fantastic for scraping surfaces where you don't want to use metal.

Size not accurate, too small
The size description is wrong. It came too small.

Love Berard olive wood! Like ART
I have many Olive Wood utensils and purchased different brands from time to time over the past few months. Berard is by far the nicest quality, but all of them are lovely no matter what. Bernard just has a nicer finish and seems a bit less rustic looking. Again, they are all lovely no matter!

The spatula is beautiful and the thickness is perfect. It always has a very comfortable handle. I would absolutely buy it again.
