John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray, Hair Lightener Spray for Blonde Hair, 3.5 fl oz

Review: I’ve been using the John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray consistently, and overall I really liked the results. It definitely does what it claims — my hair gradually became lighter and brighter rather than patchy or brassy, which I appreciated. The change isn’t instant, but with regular use it’s noticeable and looks natural. That said, I did find myself using more product than expected to get the results I wanted. I have medium-length hair, and it took fairly generous application over multiple uses to see a clear difference, so the bottle didn’t last as long as I hoped. What I liked: • Gradual, natural-looking lightening • Easy to apply and control where it goes • Didn’t damage or dry out my hair when used as directed Things to note: • You may need to use more product for visible results • Bottle can run out quickly with frequent use Overall, this is a solid option if you want subtle, controlled lightening without committing to dye. Just be aware you might go through the bottle faster than expected depending on your hair length and how light you want to go. I’d still recommend it, especially for gradual results. Ive used a couple bottles of this stuff and will definitely keep ordering in the future.

I prefer this over sun in now, it works really well I'm a natural blonde and so far it's lightened into my hair really nicely. I've been having problems with my water and it's making my hair look dingy., this is helped, it doesn't have a really pungent smell whatsoever. I like it and I recommend it.

I am brunette. Not all the way brown/black, but pretty dark brown. I don’t use as directed (obviously lol). I spray on the ends of dry hair ‘til it’s soaked, run it through with my hands, brush it, and then let it dry when I go for outside or on a run. My hair has reddish undertones, so the spray just makes that pop more. My hair is now a rusty or copper brown ombre after 2 uses, which I really like and hope to lighten even more with more uses. I do have an old bleached strip in my hair, and the product makes that lighter but also seems to spread the bleach a little bit ?? (I could be tripping) It does dry your hair out and damage a bit, even without blow dry or flat iron heat. So I do oil treatments on my ends once a week to help. But it doesn’t make my hair brassy and wiry, and it doesn’t completely fry me either. Just a little damage, as with any lightening procedure or solution. Good product.

My blonde hair stays blonde easily with this spray. My roots have never been so fair. Very easy to use. Spray on and go outside. Let the sun work with the spray. Works very well either way my thick hair. Does not leave hair feeling greasy.

This spray does help lighten hair gradually, especially when used with heat styling. I noticed some brightening after a few uses, so it works as intended. However, the smell isn’t very pleasant, and with frequent use my hair started to feel a bit dry. It’s effective for lightening, but I’d recommend using it in moderation to avoid damaging hair quality.

I've accumulated many white hairs, but I will not subject myself to the hassle, inconvenience and expense of the traditional hair dying process. My natural color is a dark brown, and when I came across this product, I thought it would be a relatively easy way of decreasing the glaring contrast between the white hair and the dark majority that hadn't turned white, by lightening my entire head of hair. It more or less worked, after taking at least a couple months before it reached the color that it would remain for the rest of the time I was using the product. My hair lightened to an auburn color, as shown in the before & after photos I've included. (Sorry for the lackluster image quality. They weren't taken with the same phone or in the same room under identical lighting conditions.) At first, I was using the spray every time I washed my hair. And I would use at least a dozen spritzes each time. However, after the first few of months of using it that often, I started needing to use it only every couple of weeks or so, and focusing mostly on the roots, in order to maintain a consistent look. I would suggest taking special care to make sure that you're getting it evenly applied to the backside of the scalp/the parts of the hair that can't easily be seen in one's reflection. I didn't realize at first that I wasn't quite getting the same results in back that I was getting in front/on top, where it's longer and easy to see in the mirror. As mentioned by some other reviewers, the product does have a bit of a burning sensation on the skin, although I wasn't that sensitive to it and didn't find it to be a deterrent. I was getting a bottle of this through Subscribe & Save every few months or so for over a year or two. During that time, they changed the fragrance from a floral scent to a fruity, tropical scent. But both versions had a noticeable vinegar-like "undernote" that I found unpleasant, although it doesn't seem to stick around long after dry-down. The reason I'm no longer using this is because I recently discovered and switched to a shampoo that works as a hair dye, which I can simply use in the shower once every couple of weeks. It lends an even darker color than my natural one and does a decent job of covering my whites; I'm now subscribed to that instead. But I would recommend this product for those who are interested in lightening their hair. EDIT (April 2026): I stopped using the dye shampoo after a few months because it was making me lose hair. Then I relented and started doing the typical dye kit thing instead, but got tired of that after about a year for the reasons mentioned at the beginning of this review. So now I'm going back to this again. Now that I've re-subscribed, I see that they have again changed the packaging and the formula. The product no longer has as much of a vinegar-like stench now. So that's good. On the other hand, it seems to burn a little more now than I remember it doing before, which isn't great. It's still not really a serious issue for me, though. Something I neglected to mention in my original review is that I used this in combination with the "go blonder" shampoo, which I intended to help "blondify" my white hairs while also using the spray to lighten the others. And although I can't say for certain because the difference probably wasn't greatly perceptible, I think it was helping to do that.

I’ve been using this spray for around four months. First I was using without a hair dryer, just was applying and going outside for a sunbathing for a while. The results was there but slightly. Then I took a gap around few weeks and then started using this spray with hair dryer+sun both for around 15-30 min. The result was better and faster but it won’t bleach your hair as an arctic white. I was using just a spray, without any bleaching shampoo or conditioner. My hair colour is natural and hair didn’t become too much dry, a little bit only. Pic is before I stared to use it and after 4 months.
