Dorcy 33-Lumen Portable Indoor/Outdoor Table Lamp Light with Hanging Hook and Unbreakable Shade, Black (41-1016)

Bought two units in August 2010 and didn't use them until now. One was ready to go when I needed it during a power outage. The other didn't work because the batteries had leaked inside. I will store the batteries separately for the one good lamp that is left. Light is bright and diffused with the shade, but the handle is very flimsy. You have to hold it by the base. Will not buy again because they are too flimsy.

I'm rather late writing this review but this lamp was very impressive upon seeing it. My mother purchased this lamp from a mail order and when she was putting it together she could not get it to work. So I kept working on hers until I got it to work that is why I understood what was going on with mine when I received my lamps from Amazon. I purchased this lamp in the later part of 2011. The light source was amazing. It comfortably lite my room. It wasn't like a ceiling light but in a blackout someone would know I had a light that's how bright it was. So I didn't feel so alone in the dark. Now one thing I would like to add initially in putting the lamp together the light would not come on at all. I was about to send it back because of my anxiousness to see how well it would work and I got so frustrated not able to get it to work; However I realized from working with my mothers lamp if you do not put the batteries in properly the light will not come on and that is what my problem was and no doubt the problem of the other purchasers that returned the lamp but I did not give up I was determine to get that lamp to work. It was real easy to put the batteries in wrong. You have to really pay attention to the battery lid making sure the lid covers the right battery end and make sure when putting the batteries in the base you are putting them on the right connector inside the base with the right end of the battery, I wasn't. By no means does this lamp does not work, it works great. It definately works and it came at the right time. I will also add the lampshade holder isn't as snug in keeping the lamp shade in place as it could be but the fact the light is rather bright and seems to get brighter when the shade is on is satisfying enough for me. I would recommend this lamp.

After having read several reviews, I gave this table lamp a shot and had it in my hands within several days. It would have been a relatively painless return process had I not been charged a restocking fee, meaning my refund would have been next to nothing if Amazon had charged me for shipping it back (paid out of pocket, a waste).

For the assembly instruction, you get a drawing on the inside of the box. That's it. Fortunately I had an older model so I could see how it is put together. It is still not easy get the pieces to fit. The battery compartment is not improved, the same peculiar loosely fitting setup for the 4 D batteries. This lamp will provide a glow in a corner of a dark room and that is about all it's good for. That may be all you want in a dark room when the power goes out. It worked immediately when finally put together.

*** UPDATE ***Ordered these again because some had been broken over the years. Used the "buy it again" option, so naturally I was expecting the same item. HA!!! The lovely lamps with an amber glow that we have been using to camp with for all of these years have been replaced by a tiny version with a harsh white LED light. It only casts light about 6 inches around it. Super disappointed!Original Post:I ordered 6 of these for table lamps for a large "dining hall" tent for my camping trip. They were incredibly affordable compared to other lanterns, and they put the light toward the table instead of up in the air or in people's eyes, like other similarly priced lanterns do. They also collapse down into a smaller box (which was good, since I was concerned when I saw the "dimensions" listed above) so packing them up year after year will be a snap. I tested them out in a pitch black room and there was decent light output. (I wouldn't sew with it from 6 feet away, but you could definitely see things in the room.) I just ordered another 4 of them!My only note would be that these aren't designed like standard camping lanterns. These aren't the things you pick up and swing beside you as you make the hike to the bathrooms. If that's what you're looking for, get a different design. These are definitely table lamps.
