Born Free: A Lioness of Two Worlds

Outer Cover Arrived Damaged
While I'm sure the bent back cover won't diminish the story, I would prefer receiving a copy of the book undamaged since the paperback wasn't cheap. Actually, I guess I will return it.

A Lioness Who Knew About A Camera
I know people get hung up on the movie -- which I have never seen. However, it is so much more to read the book written by Joy Adamson and to see the pictures she and George took. The pictures are truly marvelous and I would think it was wroth the cost of the book just to see the pictures. Elsa, the lioness of two worlds, got to the point that she did not like the camera (a black shiny box always pointed at her) and one day she got it and ran off with it over the rocks. She proceeded to chew on itand shook it in every way possible while her "parents" attempted to get it back. When they did recover it, they found she had not done a great deal of damage to the thing which she disliked so much. You won't get that from the movie. ENJOY!!!!!

One of My Favorite Movies Growing Up
The movie followed the book pretty closely. Joy was the original Lion Whisperer. Loved their courage, mothering and love, fortitude and strength.Plan to read the other 2 books.

Leath Literary Guild says "five stars!"
I purchased this for the ladies in the Leath Literary Guild, a program I started at a state correctional facility for women in my state. Several readers had asked for "animal stories," and I thought this would be a good addition. I was right. This book does not stay on the shelf.I read this book to my children many years ago and we all cried, laughed, growled, and sang with Elsa.

She really enjoyed the story comparing the two worlds that the Lioness ...
This was a gift for my sister, who had read the orginial story, and wanted this one. She really enjoyed the story comparing the two worlds that the Lioness had tried to live in. The story makes you stop and think about the two sides of animals being allowed to roam free and maybe starving, or living while confined , fed and being taken care of.

Wonderful story lives on
I have loved this story since childhood, it is a great adventure, a story of companionship between Joy, George and Elsa; and it portraits life and their work in Africa. Great pictures! It is not a coincidence that my dog is named Elsa. She has a heart of a lioness and loves adventures.

Great - even in 2013!
My daughter was required to read a fiction and non-fiction book during the summer. She loves animals and I had read this book when I was in school. I suggested it and she shrugged her shoulders. She started reading it and fell in love with Elsa!
