Known as the `female Beethoven'
Excellent musically, surprisingly good and well worth listening to.

A wonderful discovery!
This is a find! German woman composer of the first half of the 19th century. Orchestral works too, not only chamber music. I strongly recommend it.

Emilie Luise Friderica Mayer - finest female composer?
Never heard of her? I was of same mind but on hearing these works, i want to know more.Mayer’s Symphony No 4 in B minor, one of eight she wrote during her lifetime, but with the Fifth and the Eighth now presumed lost. It has sprinklings of Beethoven throughout, but i do not want to compare as this would be unfair. I think she shows a skilled and sympathetic voice to her music. Lovely phrases throughout that make your ears pricked up. The second movement has stirring, dramatic passages, my favourite of the symphony. The fourth movement has you guessing where its going and how it ends.Overall its a real fine piece of music and should be heard a lot more. The Piano Concerto is very much in the vein of Mozart. Very charming, delightful, and beautifully constructed.I am wishing the rest of her works will be released and recorded. Hope they find the missing scores as well. The performances are first class and the recordings are superbly done. Congrats to all involved.Well recommended.
