Miss Chopsticks

A must read for Xinran fans, nice non-fiction stories told as fiction, the stories jump to life and show amazing triumphs of humanity.

Xinran has a great understanding of her subject matter. I've lived in Shanghai for 10 of the last 25 years and can really relate to hers and her characters' experiences. Wonderfully written.

I love Xinran! For a true introduction to China, for a better understanding of the position and treatment of women in Asia, you can do worse than read all her books. Delightful writing and economy of prose, her strength lies in her modest, sometimes timid delivery. But oh boy, her message is robust.the length of her books is also not punishing for the busy commuter - you can easily carry her paperbacks in your handbag if you do not possess a kindle.Apart from China witness - a more fleshed out testimonial, better to adorn your bookcase in hardback - all Xinran books are easily and quickly read, however their message lingers for much longer.Recommended if you like books with a point of view and not run of the mill tosh.
