The classic A Year with C.S. Lewis is an intimate day-to-day companion by C.S. Lewis, the most important Christian writer of the 20th century. The daily meditations have been culled from Lewis’ celebrated signature classics: Mere Christianity , The Screwtape Letters , The Great Divorce , The Problem of Pain, Miracles, and A Grief Observed, as well as from the distinguished works The Weight of Glory and The Abolition of Man . Ruminating on such themes as the nature of love, the existence of miracles, overcoming a devastating loss, and discovering a profound Christian faith, A Year with C.S. Lewis offers unflinchingly honest insight for each day of the year. Review: Good intro to C.S Lewis! - Excellent quality in book and content. Great introduction to C.S. Lewis. Brilliant as always. Great gift. Review: Helpful, rich daily devotional - Lewis' writings encourage my walk with the Lord and my reflections on a lot of life issues. This daily arrangement of them gives us some of his best passages. I enjoy reading virtually everything Lewis ever wrote. He thought deeply about life, faith, and relationships. He is brilliant, insightful and comes across very real as a person communicating with you honestly and not just trying to impress you. Lewis taught at Oxford and Cambridge and can write fluently at that Oxford high level of scholarship, but he amazes me how he can also take that vast vocabulary, pare it down and write empathetic children's books like the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, too--I love the range of his works. I use both the Kindle version and the printed version of this devotional book. I have some other books that sit unopened on the shelf but this isn't one of those. It's a book I actually use, get a lot out of and highly recommend. I hope tasting Lewis's writings in these short daily selections encourages you to read more of his full works: there is Lewis to fit many a taste, scholarly, science fiction, fantasy, and reflections on his own journey.

Wit & Wisdom of a Master Craftsman
CS Lewis wrote many great books and this is a compilation these quotes from them. It contains short daily offerings of the best of each. The works have given memories of the quality of his thought process. I highly recommend this book.

Highly recommended for its substance, modesty and humor
Offering some real substance in an erudite but humble and humorous style, Lewis stands out from the plethora of dogmatic religious fluff we read. The review by FaithfulReader.com from New York is the best I've read. To emphasize several points: 1. By cutting and pasting from several C. S. Lewis books, this daily reader is somewhat choppy. 2. Although profound, orthodox Christianity, it is not a good devotional. Chris Tiegreen's At His Feet also provides real substance but, unlike A Year with C. S. Lewis, was originally written as a daily devotional. 3. Though the January 15 entry clearly explains that Screwtape is a fictional demon, a reader who doesn't know that and who begins reading at some other date might be confused (as a dear friend of mine was) when the "Enemy" means God, and "Our Father" is Satan. I don't know how to prevent this. 4. For those unfamiliar with C. S. Lewis' works, this daily reader will introduce them to his exceptionally clear and thought-provoking insights, yet expressed with modesty and humor. Some of my favorite gems: a. On limits of human intelligence: "Of course these conjectures as to why God does what he does are probably of no more value that my dog's idea of what I am up to when I sit and read." b. On God's perception of time: "The difficulty comes from thinking that God is progressing along the Time-line like us... Suppose God is outside and above the time line?" c. On experiencing God: "Suppose we really found Him? We never meant it to come to that! `Look out!' we cry, `it's alive!'" d. On the importance of doctrine: [comparing experiencing the seashore with having a chart] Doctrines are not God: they are only a kind of map. But that map is based on the experiences of hundreds of people who really were in touch with God. If you want to get any further [than experience] you must have a map. Highly recommended for introducing one to the treasure of C. S. Lewis or reminding his old admirers.

Wonderful daily readings of great hope
C.S. Lewis works are broken up into daily nuggets of great inspiration and joyful good news within this very well prepared work. Each day you are greeted with a reading that speaks to the vibrate relationship open to each of us with God. Lewis was a vocal atheist for a portion of his life however found his path flawed based on his attempt to finally disprove the existence of God. Instead he found sound reasons he could not ignore for the existence of a living God activity involved in a relationship of love with his creation at all levels. These daily readings offer a wonderful insight into Lewis and his words inspire us on our daily journey to better understand how we can work to better find the lord.

A Wonderful Devotional Resource
Taken from a number of his most widely read works, A Year with C.S. Lewis, is a wonderful resource for Christians to consider many of the theological points of their faith in small nuggets upon which they can chew and digest without becoming overwhelmed. I have been using this book for my lunchtime devotional reading and have found, without fail, that each day's reading is thought provoking and insightful. I have found the passages taken from "The Problem of Pain" and "A Grief Observed" to be the most compelling on a personal level. What the reader will not find here is the sort of light, relentlessly optimistic writing often seen in devotional literature nor will he or she find a short bit of Scripture quoted and then expounded upon by some selection of Lewis' writing. Instead, what I have found are selections chosen for their ability to pierce cliches and platitudes and engage the reader's intellect both authentically and without pretense. I strongly recommend this compilation for those who would like to go deeper into their own faith during their devotional times.

Bon livre du quotidien. Les chapitres ne sont pas trop longs et peuvent être lu avant de commencer la journée, faciles à comprendre.

A bit hit and miss for me!
Like many people I love the Narnia series of books but have always struggled with his non-fiction material. They've all tended to make me feel a bit of a dummy trying to understand what he's trying to say. I thought this book might be a good way for me to get into those books by reading bite-sized chunks each day. Some days I enjoyed, others I simply found a bit dull and many simply washed over me. I think in some ways the brevity of the 'chunks' didn't help me at all as I lacked some background or better understanding of the intent or purpose of the 'chunk'. Oh well, I guess I best sit down and try again to read a chapter at a time of one of his works and hope that with age and years of reading others that it might be a more understandable read.

The devotional I'd been searching for
If you're a Christian who loves CS Lewis and Christian apologetics (like myself), you'll love this book. If you're a Christian who hasn't read CS Lewis - you need to read CS Lewis, and subsequently, you'll love this book. If you enjoy philosophy, or considering the big questions about life - you'll love this book. If you love brilliant, eloquent, articulate, profound authorship - you'll love this book. Simply put, this book is the best of CS Lewis' writings & speeches, condensed into a daily bite sized devotional. Each day contains enough bite to get you thinking deeply & have you pondering upon his words, but still small enough to truly internalise. Definitely recommend!
