C Is for Corpse: A Kinsey Millhone Mystery (Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mysteries, 3) [Grafton, Sue] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. C Is for Corpse: A Kinsey Millhone Mystery (Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mysteries, 3) Review: H is for Hooked: A Kinsey Millhone Review - I'm only halfway through "D is for Deadbeat" but to be honest, I can't see stopping this series until I'm done. Sue Grafton has nicely picked up the technique use by Hammett, Chandler, and Ross MacDonald where she grabs you on page 1 and pretty much doesn't let go until the very end. The first time I experienced that in Dashiell Hammett's "Red Harvest", I remember thinking, wow, this is different, and great. You didn't have to read the first 30 pages, like you do in an Agatha Christie Mystery, to figure out who was who before the story started for real. It's just BAM! you're in the story. Don't get me wrong, these are not Agatha Christie style "whodunits" by any stretch of the imagination. Christie OWNs that genre. Grafton is not in that category. Not that I know if she could have written a whodunit if she tried, but as far as that goes they're kind of simple, straight line through the story. But as far as the grabbing you by the seat of the pants part on Page one goes, she can't be beat. Like I said, I can't see myself stopping these books until "Y is for Yesterday." A VERY enjoyable experience. And I love Kinsey Millhone because, as an added benefit, she's a contemporary of mine. We were both 32 in 1982 when "A is for Alibi" came out. I can't think of any other book I've read where that is true. Enjoy Review: Holds your interest throughout with a very clever plot. - I am a โnewcomerโ to this book series, and am very glad I decided to read them! This book is very cleverly written and an easy, enjoyable read. Kinsey Milhone is funny and realistic, and the plot held my interest throughout. The reason for the four rather than five stars is because the book is probably best classified as a summer or beach read. I did enjoy it, however, and am continuing to read other books in the series.

A Really Fun / Mystery, Light Read
This is, of course, the third in a series of related detective stories. The protagonist is a female private detective, who lives and works in California in the 1980s. She is an interesting mixture of femininity and a bit of the throw back hard bitten "private I" of the film noir era. The stories are clever and tend to have an interesting twist with characters making return appearances. There are also occasional references to episodes of prior stories that makes me glad that I am reading the stories in order. This particular story is about a young man who feels he is facing an unknown danger to him. He is suffering from injuries from an apparent accident and is also suffering from amnesia. Kinsey Millhone is hired to assist him. I completely enjoy these novels as a "light read". The chapters are often short and the reading can be broken into smaller segments without losing the flow of the story. Thus far I have always purchased both the Kindle and audiobook and read and listen simultaneously. The narrator for the first three novels that I have read is Mary Peiffer. She does a great job narrating and, at times, makes me laugh out loud. Having said that, these books are not comedies. They do have comic episodes, but these episodes are wrapped around a mystery. In summary, I have become a big fan of Sue Grafton. I am reading the stories in order. I completely enjoy reading these novels in free moments at work and at the end of a hard day when I just want a fun read. Thank You...

A good continuation of the series
C is for Corpse was entertaining and continued the story of Kinsey Millhone well. Her client's memory loss due to a severe accident gave the plot a unique angle for the suspense factor. I wasn't satisfied with how the story ended in that the climax wrapped up in about 10-15 pages. Kinsey's actions in the final chapter of the book are unrealistic as someone with common sense would not put him or herself in the situation in which Kinsey found herself. Overall, it was an easy read and enjoyable.

Unique Plot. Vivid Writing.
Third book of the Kinsey Millhone series. Unique plot and vivid settings and character descriptions. Skilled writing absent of typographical and punctuation errors. First published in 1986, but the use of "Chicano" is still dated. Dialogue about abortion is apathetic and unrealistic. A few other vulgar subjects fill one chapter, which are completely unnecessary to forward the main narrative.

Tangled vines of mystery, deception, lies and love
Miss Grafton did a good job with this book. It took me a couple months to read A and B, but I sailed through โCโ in about five days. I really enjoy the relationships Kinsey Millhone has with her neighbors. She is likable while being a super snoop. Watching her progress throughout this mystery, tearing apart each confession and peeking inside all the lives to find the true murderer has been really exciting. You never know until the Final Hour, who โdunnitโ! I will be continuing on to โDโ and canโt wait to see whoโs next.

I enjoy all of books in this series. They are well written, easy to read, enough action to draw you in and needing to keep reading to see what happens next. I feel like I know Kinsey.

Another very good story from Sue Grafton. I like her style of writing it is easy to read but is very clever with some of the twists she puts in. For anyone not having read crime before these books are a good place to start, be careful though once you read 'A you will want to read them all.
