McKlein USA Roosevelt 17' Leather Patented Detachable Wheeled Laptop Briefcase w/Removable Sleeve

This fits my 17" laptop well. I do wish the partitioned second zippered area was a removable section so that I could use it as one large pocket as well, which is what I mean by what I recommend as a design adjustment. It is very useful not only for traveling so I no longer need to carry a backpack but also for appointments when I need to carry a lot of paperwork etc. and a purse or backpack would hurt my shoulder or back. I love that the bottom is removable just in case I get stuck on a small plane. though if you are on the two-seat side and no one minds you can fit it under the seat width wise completely but may go 2-3" under the other persons seat space or if you are short like me it will fit underneath your space but may stick out an 1-2" sideways into your foot space. You can unzip the "feet" and they will fit in the overhead compartment with a small purse or CPAP bag in side/ on top if you want to have more leg room. Or if you do not have back problems you can just plane side check it or not use that portion at all. It barely fits down the isle of the smallest planes so I recommend carrying it in those cases but otherwise it should wheel just fine. Without a computer I have been able to use it for a weekend bag instead of my larger carry on just for the sake of taking a smaller bag. I also like the lift out laptop sleeve, which makes me feel that it has a little more protection when traveling. Overall I love the purchase, I lowered my rating because the second large pocket is partitioned and those do not come out so it does make packing a little tedious if you are not using them for files, which has never been my intent when I purchased it. I may have misunderstood the description or that part was not clearly stated, as I tend to be very particular with the details that are listed. If you are using this for business or work only this is fantastic, if you plan on filling it with two computers that is also doable, if you need to pack a computer and 2-3 days clothing this is possible if you are careful on how you pack. My shoulders thank me, I hope you can enjoy it just as much as I am. The one thing that is difficult is packing my in flight food-I tend to want to bring some food with me but I have to be creative in that process so I don't end up with smushed bread etc.I recommend it to everyone that compliments me on it or carries a backpack still! I was lucky to find mine in the Amazon warehouse, which I never knew existed until this purchase-saved me a ton of money- as in hundreds of dollars-I was getting desperate for a back pack alternative for a suitable carry on that was big enough to meet my needs and would be durable enough and nothing in the department stores or Samsonite stores met my criteria without going way over my budget. My SOLO Classic Leather has finally gotten to the stage it deserves a rest after 5 years of HEAVY use. They do not make this model any longer so I researched a number of cases hoping to find one that held the items I need on the road. I decided on this model based upon the pictures and reviews thinking that it was the most promising replacement. It is a very well made case! The selling point over the Gold is the full length / width front pockets. Many features are not mentioned in the write up such as additional open pockets (6), three internal zippered pockets, passport / airline ticket pocket, weatherproof cover and much more. Well padded computer sleeve (non removable). It holds all my stuff. The zippered 2" expansion is a bonus. Given my travel schedule (2-3 weeks per month) I was a bit concerned with the review regarding the quality of the leather. I am very satisfied with the scratch resistant leather on this bag. The wheels are definitely different than the picture. These resemble the Chicago set up and definitely need to be removed when on RJs but do fit under regular airline seats. That said, they are metal with rubber treads and glide smoothly. The bag is easily detached and comes with an additional clip should one be broken. Others are available from McKlein. Detached, it is very impressive and manageable with the handle alone however the shoulder strap is a welcome accessory. The cart protects the bottom of the bag from snow, water and the occasional mud. The extendable handle is rugged and of sufficient length to accommodate taller individuals. A very good value! I am definitely getting a McKlein for my wife as well.Amazon was highly competitive on the price and the bag arrived a day earlier than promised.

This purchase is a very close replacement for a no-longer-available Wilson Leather branded bag, purchased in 2002 (11 years ago). The telescoping handle mechanism, stitching, and front stands had failed. It was the telescoping handle mechanism that finally made the old back unusable. The McKlein's detachable wheels are a new feature, to me. So far, so good. There is a "raincoat" for the bag concealed between the case and the wheel assembly. Upon receipt, it appeared the new McKlein Roosevelt bag was 1-inch less deep (front to back) than the Wilson bag. I was a bit miffed by that. However, I discovered there is an "expansion zipper" such that the bag opens up that additional inch. I'm pleased with the fact this bag is a form-fit-function replacement. I use it for business travel, not as a laptop case. Laptop travels in its own bag perched on top of this case while wheeling it all through the airport. Because it is smaller than a carry-on case, I usually can find space to stow it in the overhead compartments, sometimes re-arranging other items. It holds a few shirts, pair of pants, extra underwear, and various personal items. I carry a strap or bungee cord in case I need to attach the separate bag firmly to the handles when extended. Lately I've taken to also traveling with a backpack which also can hook over the extended handle. Indeed, my only concern is with the durability of the extended handle.

I returned the item after examining it. This is a very well-made product, good leather and construction. But the entire assembly, with the bag and separate trolley, is both very heavy and very big, too big for most plane overhead storage. The design is flawed and could have been better executed with usability in mind. For example, aside from the lack of attention to size and weight, the clips that attach the bag to the trolley are not themselves attached, so if the trolley is removed, the user is stuck with four loose plastic clips that need to be put somewhere and are likely to get lost.
