Very happy with this book. I love the pencil sketches. They invoke the feel of what I believe Tolkein was describing. I also have the LOTR version as well.

This is a wonderful book for any fan of The Hobbit.

If you love the movies and books then this will add to your enjoyment, highly recommend this sketchbook.

Well worth buying for any fan of Tolkien, The Hobbit and Alan Lee. Also a great resource for someone running a role playing game based on Middle Earth - the included sketches of places really give Game Masters something to work with.

As a huge fan of epic fantasy fiction and mythology, you can't get more epic than Peter Jackson's take on LOTR & the brilliant HOBBIT movies (although a lot of fans don't exactly speak about the latter trilogy in glowing terms), the whole process on the making of these fantastic movies is just as enjoyable and with both trilogies fans weren't disappointed when it comes to extras as there are hours worth. As a hobby artist, fantasy is my passion and I am a huge fan of two of the main concept artists featured in all of the 6 movies, American artist John Howe and the British artist Alan Lee. Such great artists and both their styles are quite similar, I have books on both and I had to get this. As well as a great reference book it's such a joy to look through and only wish that I could one day be this good. I would recommend this book for all fantasy film and art fans alike, a great purchase, worth every penny.

Recently acquired the newly published Hobbit Sketchbook by one of my favorite Tolkien artists, the great Alan Lee. Its the companion to his earlier The Lord of the Rings Sketchbook. This has got some beautiful sketches, both old and new. Alan Lee was one of the designers of the Lotr and hobbit movies and you can see from the sketches that much of his ideas were used in the hobbit movies. Loved this book. Sharing some pics from that with you guys.
