Exciting
This is a true adventure story. Well written. I felt I was there and could feel the tension build as they get closer to Tut’s tomb.

It's like being there!
There are two things that make this book special: Mr. Carter's description of not only what he sees as he enters the tomb, but his emotions as well. The other special feature is that the book's pictures have been interjected within his story in close proximity to what Carter is describing at the time.Carter also makes it extremely easy to understand what he is describing by referencing specific plate numbers. This is useful when the reader is not familiar with the name of an item because it never existed in modern times. For a person who enjoys reading stories of true events, Mr. Carter has given us a gem of a book. My only wish is that Mr. Carter had available to him at the time the technology of color film. His descriptions of what he sees and the stiking colors he witnessed in the tomb leave one yearning for color prints.

Excellent story and adventure of never giving up.
Having visited the tomb in the Valley of the Kings last year it is a fascinating read. All that remains of Tutankhamen in the tomb is his body and sarcophagus, the rest of the objects are in the Cairo Museum.

Fun read
If you’re reading this book you probably already know everything it’s going to tell you about Tutankhamen. But, it’s nice to have a first hand account!

Pretty good, a little dry and occasionally over detailed about the wrong things.
It is pretty good but on the dry side. Even for an archaeology buff

UNFORGETTABLE!!
This is the scene just before Lord Carnarvon asked Howard Carter "What do you see, Carter?" Howard Carter replied "I see wonderful things." A perfect moment caught by the camera. This is certainly a time when a picture is worth a thousand words.

I don't like to handle them too much as they are out ...
I have the original hard copy volumes written by Howard Carter. I don't like to handle them too much as they are out of print now. This version is quite accurate and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to read through the history again.

Tutankhamen
I chose this book as I was interested in Tutankhamen's life and the burial sites. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in some history of Egypt.

Fascinating
Spoiled a little due to the - for me - over long forward and preface . However Carter's enthusiasm really comes across. His detailed explanation of artefact recording and preservation reveals how much work and effort went into handling each item. Today we would have laptops , phones ,computers laser scanning and other tools . Then it was hand drawn sketches painstakingly drawn maps , floor plans and objects photographed for scale and position , the pictures themselves being developed in another room in the tomb now serving as a darkroom! This tomb along with many others suffered at the hands of grave robbers , the broken door seals evidence of the damage. The inner burial chamber was however intact and you can almost anticipate the the tension as the first light in over several thousand years fills this tomb.

An interesting initial account of the first excavations into the tomb
This is a first hand account of the finding of Tutankhamen's tomb. It's written by Howard Carter himself - the man who discovered the tomb - and his enthusiasm, as well as the hard and painstaking work preserving the objects. It's interesting to see him speculate about what might lie beyond, as well, especially when we already know that what this book describes was a mere prelude to what lies within.

Excellent
I have been to Egypt, the first time was in 1993, and I made my mind up that I'd like to study Egyptology.Although in my second year of studying Egyptology, during my first year I came across this little book. Although it wasn't one of the study books I was required to read I decided to purchase it.This is a great book, Howard Carter even though a novice Egyptologist in some respect due to his training had the feeling he'd find Tutankhamen tomb, and through persevering he did. It's great to read his words as he wrote them. :-)I'm really sorry that my own country didn't recognise him and give him any special awards. Howard Carter did something no one else could, I admire him for all his Egyptology work that he ever did.I found this book informative, interesting and enjoyable to read.Whether you are studying Egyptology or just want a little more knowledge then this is an excellent book.It makes an excellent edition to my little Egyptian library, which now stands at nearly 1000 books on this subject. :-)

Arrived on time. Great book.
Wanted to read Howard Carter's account as we approach the 100th anniversary of the finding of Tutankhamen's tomb next year.
