Great reel for the money, really impressed
For the price, this reel is hard to beat, and with new bearings and some oil and grease, it is truly fantastic. I purchased this reel as my islander needed some repairs and was going to be out for a few weeks. The quality of the metal is solid, it's a little rough around the edges, but nothing that would effect functionality. I did upgrade the bearings to Boca bearings and the reel is very smooth with low start up inertia, however it needed a little tweaking that I'll list how to do below. When loaded, 75 yds 50# Dacron and 150 yds hydrofloat 20lb. it will spin for over 2 minutes. On my first outing with this reel I hooked into a bright winter steelhead that gave me a run for my money, shooting down stream, then upstream into a log jam. I landed this fish solo without a net, so there was a lot of pressure on the reel and it held up great. Overall I am very impressed.Cons: The only negative I've encountered is a small gap between the bottom of the handle and the spool that the line can catch and wrap around the handles. This does not happen frequently.Bearing replacement tips/improvements:There is some slop in the reel after the bearing upgrade, meaning the spool moves back and forth on the spindle. To minimize the slop, place a #10 nylon washer under the spindle screw, it's not totally perfect but it doesn't need to be. These washers can be found at home Depot and are very inexpensive. The reel doesn't come greased or oiled. Get some good reel grease and oil, and apply the grease to the pinion gear, and click and pawl mechanism. Not too much just enough to ensure smooth operation. Secondly, apply some oil to the spindle of the reel. Place the reel plate side down so spindle faces up, apply little bits of oil at the top and let it coat the spindle as it drips down, and wipe excess away from the backplate. My choice for oil and grease is Quantum Hot sauce.

This represents extreme quality at a price so affordable and yet comparable to more expensive reels
An excellent reel for carp fishing and 'Long trotting' on rivers. Care should be taken to avoid the line from becoming loose on the spool and falling into the inner workings reel

Okay reel, needs mods to be reliable
The media could not be loaded. This reel shows well and operates okay but it literally started falling apart after 4 decent Steelheads. First the clicking mechanism fell out of the reel, then the locking screw for the reel fell out mid fight. I continued using the reel even though the spool could easily fall off of the body. After my last fish the reel pegs started getting loose and egging out with no way to tighten them.If you buy this reel I'd recommend modding the pegs, putting a lock washer on the locking screw and keeping a close eye on the clicking mechanism.Would not buy again.

Upgrade your bearings! Improves spinning
The media could not be loaded. Great entry level centerpin reel! I switched up two bearings like the other guys in the review suggested. It’s only 18$ or less. With them switched the reel spun over 2 mins 40 seconds +Sleek design and very light. Going to use for floating eggs for king salmon in the PNW. Fall is upon us it’s game time!

Husband loved it. Great value for the price. He just recommended to buy new bearings for it

Buy this one!
Used the reel for a weekend and I'm very pleased. I did upgrade the bearings to boca Ceramic and it spins fantastic. It's light, has a loud clicker, and is all you need if you're new to the technique. Just buy it! You'll like it!

Either defective or very poorly made.
After reading the reviews I decided to order this as a starting reel. Once I took the reel out of the box and gave it a spin I could quickly tell something was not right. The spin only last 10 to 15 seconds. There is a grinding feel and scraping sounds. I removed the spool from the back to find a very rough gear and circle scrapped into the back plate. The center gear screws are slightly stripped and are not symmetrically drilled. The screws were screwed in on an angle.Would not suggest this reel if this is not defective and just how poorly they are made.

A great reel after modifications
This reel provides a good foundation for a great centerpin; IF AND ONLY IF you perform some critical modifications. First, the bearings that it ships with are poor and need to be replaced with a pair of some excellent ceramic Boca bearings (SMR147C-2OS #7 LD, 7x14x5 mm). They are about 30 dollars. Replacing them is straight forward and enables the centerpin to spin perfectly. Second, the clicker is very weak, but is easily fixed. To fix it, by remove the spool and then the clicker spring. Using your hands, add some more bend into the clicker spring and reinstall. This makes the clicker function as expected. After that you are good to go.
