It is a nicely laminated fold-out pamphlet
I'm just getting into mushroom picking and ID. This is a really handy little pamphlet. It is not a book. It is a nicely laminated fold-out pamphlet. Folded out it is equivalent to about four double-sided letter-size sheets. There are nice color pics and brief descriptions of about fifty varieties of mushrooms. Edible varieties and dangerous ones. Won't even notice this in my pocket or pack, but it probably will help me bring home some new specimens to properly ID. This is not going to give you adequate info to positively ID or distinguish details, but it might just get you to bring home something new to look further into. It will be going with me for that purpose. I've seen some complaints that about it not being a book, but if you were to put in all of the knowledge and work to create this, you still couldn't go get one printed and laminated in this quality for the price.

Not what what expected.
I thought I was getting a book on different types of mushrooms that you could eat. It is more like a flyer, with a little more than a handful of information. It is not worth the cost in my opinion

Informative
This was a handy brochure when we were out hunting mushrooms. The lamination is a joke though. It was barely sprinkling outside and the paper inside the plastic got soaked.

good for a reminder, not definitive ID
its nice to have the major shrroms all on one waterproof pullout sheet but this isn't a definitive guide for ID'ing them unless you are well-educated already. it would be great to include a bit more of the natural history of the mushroom as well. the images are adequate but far from stellar and only show one perspective from each and not closeups of gills, etc. Not that any other guide does do that.... dang it, i should give it five but that would go to all the rain promises and more All That the Rain Promises, and More...: A Hip Pocket Guide to Western Mushrooms [ALL THAT THE RAIN PROMISES] [Paperback ]

Convienient and easy to carry
I've recently started mushroom hunting and this guide has come in handy while out in the woods. It has a coating over it so it doesn't get wet. It's colorful and has a lot of great info.

Booo on Value, Good for Quick info
At first I was not stoked about the fold out, brochure style. Then I realized it can be read like a book with pages if you just turn it over after reading the first half. Value wise $8 seems like a bit of a stretch but I can assure you that all of the information published here is highly relevant especially in the field and also it seems waterproof. I am new to west coast and mushrooms here, here are some pictures I believe I have identified from this guide alone. Birch Bolete, Cauliflower Mushroom, and Coral Mushroom. All in Vancouver

As advertised, just not entirely waterproof
It's a good quick reference guide when you need that confirmation of a species you're already knowledgable about. I found it helpful. However, even though it is laminated, do your best to keep it dry as it still soaks up water, mine is falling apart after one outing. Just something to keep in mind.

Basic
It’s a very basic field guide. I would have liked more information about habitat and such in order to identify the mushrooms

Overpriced pamphlet.
Quite small pamphlet. Good for your pocket, but a little too expensive for what you get.
