Large tree, to 80 feet (24 m) in the wild, but usually not more than 45 feet (14 m) in cultivation. Alternate, compound leaves about 8-12 inches (20-31 cm) in length, leaflets dull green. The flowers are small and without petals, perfect but functionally staminate or pistillate, in axillary or terminal panicles. Fruits round to ovoid, 2-3 inches (5-8 cm) long, with a red, orange or yellow peel covered with hairlike spinterns. The pulp is white, translucent, aromatic and sweet, and surrounds a seed which resembles an almond. Rambutan may be propagated by seed, grafting or air layers. The seed loses viability quickly, and must not be allowed to dry out before planting. Germination occurs in 10-14 days. Young trees benefit from approximately 50% shade, but can take full sun once they are established in the field. Grafting is the most common method of propagation. Approach grafting and patch budding are both used successfully. The rambutan is adapted to the wet, humid tropics, and grows well in acid, well drained soils with a high organic matter content from sea level to about 1,800 feet (550 m) elevation. The rainfall should be fairly well distributed throughout the year, although a short dry season is tolerated and may induce flowering. Temperatures below 41F (5C) can cause defoliation and death of trees. Rambutans respond well to high soil fertility, and should be fertilized regularly during the growing season. Grafted trees begin to produce at 3-4 years of age, and a mature tree can produce over 200 pounds (91 kg) of fruit per year. In the Northern Hemisphere, flowering occurs principally between February and April, with a second flowering sometimes occurring in August and September. Fruit matures from July to October, and from November through January for the second harvest.

I received these today. it only took about four days which was very good. I received them in a wet paper towel, which is also understandable because these cannot be dried or they wont grow. But, most of them had molded. now, I have been able to clean the seeds off and all of them had sunk when i did the sink of float test, which is also good.so, I'm going to see if these will grow or not. But I'm pretty optimistic that they will. They're in really good condition.I will update later to see how they do.5/28/2014It's only been a day, but that was one of the most important tests. i gently uncovered the seeds to see how they were doing and i must say, it truly amazes me.They have not molded at all since i washed off the mold the previous day. They haven't sprouted either, but they still look good. I suggest, after getting these seeds, make sure you clean them very, VERY, well. Use a potting mix that is very loose. You don't want anything like peat moss or coconut mix. you want something with very very good drainage. try miracle grow, but DON'T use the seed starting mix. If the soil clumps, DON'T use it! you must use something loose or it WILL rot.Also, don't do the paper towel method. This will make the seeds rot faster. I am updating as I go and will give more details about them, bust so far, they're very good.6/3/2014I'm trying so hard to save these seeds. Really hard. I was so looking forward to getting atleast one plant from these seeds, but no luck not even one plant came from these seeds.

Wrong description
I was so excited to get Big Rambutan Seeds like it said on Amazon, instead I got tiny little seeds. When asked, I was told they said "They are not the seeds from the fruit, but from the flowers" NOT the right description all!Very disappointed.
