Outstanding

Update:Use a spudger tool to pry off they keycaps, works very well for this tasksharpie fine point writes on the blank key caps that come with they keyboardthe sharpie writes much better than a ball point pen on the labels you can see in the picture the ball point is on the left and looks fadedOriginal reviewI cant run software on work laptop, so this keyboard is the only kind i can use.The keyboard accepts the programmed keys into its onboard memory and does not need to run software.I program the keyboard on my personal pc and then i can use it on my work pc or any other pc because it remembers the keystrokesI wish xkeys would make something like the elgato which has keys that have a screen on each of them so you can program the button to look as you want it toMaking key caps is time taking ... but this keyboard is magnificent for the fact that it can be programmed and will run without software

Well made, versatile tool

I have a couple of X-keys products. The workmanship is great. I bought this little 4-key unit because I wanted to program some key sequences for a computer for which I have no admin rights (and therefore cannot install custom software). With this USB stick, I can use the company's (Windows) software to program the unit, and then I can use the USB stick on the other computer without having to install any software on the other computer. My only complaint is that the company's software is Windows-only, but as long as you have access to some type of Windows machine for setup, it works fine on a Mac. You can also use Keyboard Maestro on the Mac to create triggers based on the location of the hardware keys on the USB stick, so there is some limited Mac compatibility. Anyway, it's one of the more useful gadgets I have bought lately.

Good product, weirdly hostile tech support

I like this product, very handy to have around (especially for repetitive tasks) and easy to program. After reading the manual, I noticed that it is possible to shorten the stick to a custom length, and as directed by the manual, I emailed to ask about specific instructions. This was the entire response I got:"It is not simple at all , I’ve attached the documentation we send out but I must warn you that this will void the warranty and we’re not going to be responsible for any damage to the unit that may occur while following the directions. Honestly, I cannot suggest doing it , I’ve heard of user ruining their stick attempting this."I'm fine with not being able to shorten the stick, but I just thought it was an oddly hostile response to a longtime customer innocently inquiring as directed by their own manual.

Does what it's supposed to do. Could be engineered better

I got this to use with my Eos Nomad rig since the newest version eliminated some keys I wanted to access frequently. Once I figured out how to program it, it's done what I wanted it to when I've needed it to. A few changes would make this a really great piece of gear. The software is not super easy to figure out, and there's really no manual or convenient support to figure it out. I had to search the web to find the relevant info on how to program it, and I'm sure I have only scratched the surface on what can be done with it.The button caps never quite seat satisfactorily. They routinely end up sitting crooked if you don't press them exactly in the middle of the key. I can't imagine trying to do live music with these buttons flopping around and occasionally falling off. The click is solid, but needs to be clicked firmly with intent. It's not at all like touch typing. I'd also prefer the edges of the key caps to be a bit rounded. The last quibble I have is that I wish the cord was detachable. The attached cable is really long, and weighs more than the unit. It also takes up a lot of space in my bag. I'd much rather have a USB-B or C socket so I could use the cable of my choosing.

Well-made keypad that helps speed up your workflow.

After unsuccessful attempts at using software to reprogram the function keys on my keyboard, I purchased this to have hotkeys for frequently used programs and functions. It works great. The extra long USB cable makes it easy to run behind my desk and the keycaps come off to allow custom labels. (I cut pieces off the top of a sticky-note.) The driver software is easily accessible on-line and is easy to use, even allowing for program-specific shortcuts.

solenoids vast improvement over mech or membrane keyboard

For futures trading, video/music editing or serious gaming, you'll often see pros/pro players with xkeys taking central role in their rigs. One of the most influential futures traders, goes by fat cat, has 2. No wonder, once you get it set up (very easy) and use and the action is vastly superior to "gaming" keyboards, many of which has extremely high actuation points combineed with long throw switches, they do well on benchmarks but not in real world functionalityPossibly solenoids aren't common anymore but the ones in my 1997 Corolla that lock/unlock doors work flawlessly, 26 years later.

Sucks big time

For the life of me I could not work this thing. I had an older x-key device and it was very easy to program. This one IS NOT. The videos and manual are pretty useless and tech support was even more useless. I hate this thing.

For the one man band

I livestream car/bike races from a small track in FL. I wanted to add in some POV cameras to add a little interest but I needed a way to switch between them without taking my eyes off the main cam. I found this little beauty where else but Amazon. I velcroed it to the pan bar on my tripod so I can easily control my cams without missing a beat. The unit is very well made and the keys have a positive feel to them. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the cable being attached to the unit. Would be nice to have a separate replaceable cable "just in case". I do have to say the cable feels of a good gauge and does feel secure where it goes into the unit. FWIW, just below the keys I added a Fotga zoomy for my main cam. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071F7682W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Xkeys and my homebuilt Hauptwerk Organ

This midi keys stick was the perfect fix when I wanted some extra pistons for my virtual organ.Initial setup is simple ...just read the instructions...and once installed meshes simply with the Hauptwerk software.

Five Stars

Good Quality & Value !

exchanged it for xk24

The xk16 was a bit disappointing. The keys don't feel as nice as on the xk24 so I returned the 16 and ordered the 24. Would love to see the same quality of keys on the xk16!
