A great book by a Washington DC icon!
Katharine Graham is probably one of the most well-known newspaper publishers of all time. She of course was the publisher of the Washington Post for 30 years (1960s - 1990s). She definitely oversaw many amazing stories at WP, including of course Watergate, for which there is a movie about her involvement in bringing that story to light. (The movie is The Post, and Meryl Streep portrays Ms. Graham.)This book is absolutely wonderful as the story of Watergate is told from her powerful perspective, but many other stories are told that are equally as enthralling, if not quite as historically important. This book is one of those that are impossible to put down once you start as one story leads into another and one cannot wait to read the next story with many famous names and famous points in history.Highly recommend for any history buff who remembers these stories from the WP and wants an inside look at the decisions that went into their being investigated and ultimately published. What a remarkable woman she was. Thank goodness she had the absolute bravery to publish so many remarkable stories during her tenure at WP!

The life of a remarkable woman accurately recorded
I knew the book when it was first published in 1997. I replaced the book with this edition to remind me of the Graham's decision to publish the "Pentagon Papers" saga. I was able to be aware of the background to the film "The Post". The writing of Graham is true to the actual events. Graham was a remarkable woman faced with enormous challenges to The Washington Post. The book reveals her inner strength, her political wisdom, and the importance of a circle of true friends. She repeated her actions when faced with publishing the story of the Watergate scandal, recorded in the book "All the President's Men" by Woodward and Bernstein.
