Planting the Future: Saving Our Medicinal Herbs

Excellent.
Rosemary once again does not disappoint! This book is a wonderful resource for newbies to herbs as well as the "seasoned" (pun intended) herbalist. Lots of practical explanations, clear photos, thorough discussion. Though I am not necessarily into the more "tree hugging" concepts (astrology, moon cycles, crystals) as the author, I still find it a great resource & easy read for anyone interested in the power of plants & medicinal herbs! Highly recommend.

Fantastic Resource!
This is an excellent book! United Plant Savers has done a wonderful job of providing in depth information on herbs that are at risk of extinction. I am 70, grew up in the country, and have used medicinal herbals for many years. Yet, I am learning much from this volume and am becoming far more aware of the need to protect the plants discussed. It is very pleasurable to read with each chapter having been written by a different herbalist. Kudos to UpS for this very well done book!

Save the plants, save ourselves
Planting the Future provides both motivation and instruction for saving medicinal plants. The public's growing realization of the healing potential of plants is positive, but over-harvesting has led to a decline in native stands of many plants. Rosemary Gladstar has gathered a stellar team of writers to address the issue. The index reads like a who's-who of the herbal world. More than 30 plants are addressed in individual articles written by herbalists who know and love them. A grower of any size can use the information, the backyard up to a large sanctuary. A gardener can find the plants best suited their area, as well as how to propagate and care for them. Once grown, there is information about the preparation and use of the plants. My own tiny urban medicinal garden is part of the effort to save valuable plants thanks to guidance from these leaders. Herbalists, native plant enthusiasts and conservationists will all find value in this book.

Lady Slippers
On vacation this spring we found a "Dears head Orchid". Rare! I wanted to know so much more about the tiny plant. I have several houseplants that are slippers. No greenhouse, need the best care information.Grand-mother told me that Lady slippers carpeted the forest floor when she was young. This is the first for me and couldn't believe my eyes! It doesn't grow below 5500 feet. Just the leaf lays under the snow, all winter. The proability of seeing this was once in a life time! Thank You1

Precious resource--good reading too
A lovely book to read, with a very spiritual element that echoes the work of Stephen Buhner, even. The seller was prompt and the item as expected--maybe even better, as many of the individual essays had been signed by the authors!
