ABSILUTELY AMAIZING!
I hope you read this review before you decide not to buy this toy. Our whole family (including my 6-year old daughter, my husband and me) loves Bloco toys. We have put together the Jungle animals set and the Kitty set and my daughter was overjoyed to get this set for Christmas. After reading some of the reviews for this set I was somewhat hesitant about getting it and I am so happy tat I did. We have just put together one of the horses and we loved the process and the result. In fact, my daughter did 90% of the work (and she has just turned 6). We found directions quite easy to follow, but we could have easily put it together without any directions just based on the picture. When I told my daughter about a number of bad review for the toy, she was outraged and urged me to tell everyone how great this toy really was. I would like to point out that I am not an engineer; in fact, anything connected to engineering would be among my weakest areas, and English is my 4ht language (I'm a World language teacher). Putting together anything from Bloco does take time and most kids will need some assistance from an adult, but the process is very easy and enjoyable (great way to spend some time with your child) and results are always stunning. We have put the first set (the Jungle one) together right after my daughter turned 5. She fell in love with it right away and did at least 50% of the work. My advice: make sure you have at least 1 hour set aside for the project; if possible, have you child "pull out" the parts needed for the animal ahead of time (my daughter loves doing it as well), then relax and have fun. Each Bloco box gives ideas for some more creative options (like silly monsters) made from the same parts, so possibilities are truly endless. The put together characters can be used as decorative pieces for kid's rooms, can be played with (but very gently) or can be taken apart and put together as unique creatures. I'm in the process of picking our next Bloco set (for Valentine's Day). If you still have a kid in you and love spending time with your child, you will truly like this or any other Bloco sets!

Disappointing
I was so excited for these but got greatly disappointed. They are hard to put together even for adults. It takes some strength and dexterity so my kids (6-8) had trouble with them (we bought 2 sets). The instructions were horribly bad and they finished product doesn’t stay together so the kids couldn’t play with any of their creatures. I do not recommend these.

More effort than enjoyment
Got this gift for my 8 year old neice for Christmas to help with her fine motor skills. My husband and I (both Engineers) sat down with her to help her put it together, and I have to agree with the other reviewer who said the instructions are terrible! There are all sorts of pieces, many of which are very, very small. It is very hard to determine what to do from the pictures. I suppose with some persistance and just playing around with the pieces, eventually it might be fun, but I'm not sure I would bother to get through the frustration to get to the fun part. Also, once the animals are made they have a tendency to come apart with any amount of playing. Next time I will definitely stick with Legos or Tinker Toys.

Instructions are a little ambiguous.
This is a great project for puzzle lovers. Only giving it a 4 because the instructions can sometimes be a bit ambiguous, especially for little people. My daughter is 6 and has easily put together lego kits from instructions without help, but had a hard time figuring out the angles of pictures in these instructions.

Great Toy for Creative Minds
My seven year daughter old got this for Christmas from Santa. Her mother tried to put one of the creatures together on Christmas day and had to give up after only having a few pieces assembled. My DD picked it up a few days later and while watching TV put together a wonderful Winged Unicorn. She was able to figure it out by looking briefly at the instructions than just putting it together. Her mother decided to give it another try using DD's approach of figuring out how to do it and then putting it together. She assembled a fancy horse that did not stay together that well. DD critiqued it and corrected a couple of issues on how the fasteners were done. She also decided she did not like the face so she redid it. This is quickly becoming one of our favorite toys. Once DD showed her mother how to do it the family has been able to have a great time assembling and enhancing different animals. Great toy for creativity. Not enough instruction which encourages you to be creative and figure it out--one of the pluses in the long run!

TERRIBLE instructions!
My six-year-old girl received this as a Christmas present. The box says it's for ages 6-12. No way. The directions for these toys are terrible. It doesn't even list out the pieces necessary to build each animal! We have four kids and we all play with Legos. My 8 and 11 year old boys (Lego-building maniacs!) got completely frustrated with this toy. It's a good premise - pop out the foam pieces and put them together using interlocking "balls". The flying unicorn my husband made took 30 minutes. He's 40. The directions were that bad. The rocking horse my boys tried to make for her took them an hour and they couldn't finish. The directions show how to make the head, then the last frame shows the finished horse. No explanation of what pieces you need, no pictures of how to fit them together. I spend another 30 minutes figuring out what pieces should finish it, and how to put them together. No, it's not the same as the other horse(s) - so you can't even copy from directions for another creature. If I could give it a negative star rating, I would. Don't waste your money.

Such high hopes...
My kids have been wanting these for over a year. I finally got a set for a niece and the two 5-yr. olds (my niece and my daughter) couldn't do it by themselves. They couldn't figure it out! They were so excited looking at the box, too. I think this would work better for older children?Such a bummer.

Fun
My granddaughter loves this puzzle. She had it put together in no time and then proceeded to take it apart to do all over again.
