"A Strange Sort of Being": The Transgender Life of Lucy Ann / Joseph Israel Lobdell, 1829-1912

Maybe I misread the reviews about what this book was. It read too much like a dull, mediocre college term paper. It didn't flow and facts were repeated too many times. I understand that the author had very limited information to work with, but I still think the story could have been written to be much more compelling. It's a fascinating subject and a sad, sad story. Unfortunately, transgenders are still discriminated against and treated badly today.

as a transgender woman I appreciate truth about our gender and that it comes from our hearts and minds and not the appendages that we happen to be born with. he was true to himself and the powers that tried to control him could not prevail. thank you joe for pioneering my journey and Bambi who brought the story to us.
