A very nice coffee table book, but useful too
Very enjoyable read. I want to sail from Hawaii to Kentucky, but my wife says a 30 foot boat is not big enough. Well, book doesn't answer the question what is the smallest, safe craft to circumnavigate, but it does answer a lot. Crossing the Panama Canal is one question is does answer. The seasonal ocean currents pages are very helpful. Here in Hawaii we have tradewinds that change seasonally. Hence the North shore winter big wave surfing, and the moderate waves on the South shore in the summer. Now put it on Kindle, I don't want to carry books.

Nice cover, outdated information
I bought this book earlier this year to use for my pacific crossing from Panama to Australia and was bitterly dispointed. It appears to be full of great cruising information, however most of the the country port information is way out of date or just plain wrong!! (refer below examples)Papeete(Tahiti) - Book lists stern too marina in town area - this has been a jetty based marina for over 7 years!!Apia (Western Samoa) - Book mentions only anchorage in port area - there has been a marina there for over 8 years and anchorage is discouraged!!Savu Savu (Fiji) - book shows it in completely the wrong place within the bay, also there are now 2 marina'sVanuatu - Book lists 2 entry ports, there are some 4 entry ports and have been for yearsNeumea (New Caledonia) - Book lists free night in Marina plus Customs come to you, this has not been the case for some years, you now have to slog it out on foot to all 3 departments.Brisbane (Australia) - Book lists Scarborough marina as entry port, this has not been the case for over 5 yearsThese are but a few of the glaringly obvious errors with this book.

Good all round Pacific Guide
This book is good for what we were doing which was sailing from USA to Australia. It is good around the South Sea Islands with lots of tips for general cruising in the area and specific advice with regard to anchorages etc
