> THE MFINE 938B IS A GOOD MP3 PLAYER—BUT A TERRIBLE AM RADIO
RECOMMENDATION -- For all practical purposes the Mfine 938B does not have minimally acceptable AM reception, so I suggest considering a sleeker 088 model instead which has all the same functions other than AM reception. If you want AM, then buy a much smaller Kaito radio Kaito KA200 Pocket AM/FM Radio, Black for about the same price.RADIO> The AM reception of the Mfine 938B is simply terrible – even here in Miami, a place with dozens of strong radio stations. FM reception is poor.> Despite the instructions, it is impossible do “dial-in” the frequency of any particular radio station, AM or FM. You must first “scan” for all the station frequencies, and then select the stations by “channel”.> The “scan” function assigns a “channel” (analogous to a TV channel) to every frequency it finds, regardless of whether the frequency is usable or not. For example, here in Miami, inside, with the antenna collapsed, the scan function assigned 37 AM channels. Even out-of-doors, only 4 of the assigned “channels” were more than static, and the 4 “hearable” channels were mostly static.> Isolation is very poor. Listening to one of the strongest AM radio stations, I could hear a a second station fading in and out.MP3 PLAYER> Just load your MP3 files into a USB drive or mini-HCSD card, and plug it into the Mfine 938B -- and you can play the tracks in sequential order, go forward or back one at a time, or select a specific track.> The physical mini-SD slot is a little too wide, so the fit feels sloppy at first, but when fully inserted, it does fit properly and work correctly. In fact, it fits flush -- so it is difficult to remove. You can use a small pen knife or small thin tweezers to pull out the card. But if you drop the radio, the mini-SD card could pop out and easily be lost.> If you plug-in both and HCSD card and a USB thumb drive, you can choose between them using the "mode" button "TF" for the HCSD card, and USB for the USB thumbdrive. Or you can select AM or FM radio with the mode button.> Remembers the location you stop listening, and therefore works well for MP3 formatted audiobooks.> Plays MP3 format only -- NOT WMA or other formats. Therefore probably cannot handle "secure" format audio-files downloaded from a library, etc.> Only the current track number is displayed (or, alternating the seconds elapsed in a track). Neither folders names nor track names are displayed. Obviously, there is no way to navigate among folders (since they are not displayed).> You can load music from a number of albums (folders), and they will play in order. The Mfine 938B temporarily renumbers the tracks. If you find and remember (or write down) your favorite albums or tracks, then you can find them by entering the track number.BATTERY and POWER> Unlike many MP3 players (e.g., IPods), the battery (a BL-5C) is replaceable—so you don’t have to replace the entire player when the rechargeable battery is worn out after about a year’s use.> If you buy an extra battery and charge it, you can change batteries instead of carrying around a USB cord and charger and desperately hunting for an AC outlet.> Unfortunately, BL-5C batteries are not used in current equipment and are getting scarce, so the price is rising—about $10 each at this time.USB POWER CORD> The battery doesn't last long---in my experience about 2 hours at a reasonable volume. You can plug in the USB cord to listen without draining the battery> CAUTION -- The USB plugs (a "standard" male and a "mini" male) look normal, but the wiring is not. If you try to plug in a similar generic USB cord, the thumbdrive/SD card will not work. SUGGESTION -- make a tab with blue painters tape, identifying the cord as "Mfine 938B".> If you want a longer USB cord, you can use a "standard male to standard female" extension cord.OTHER> The speaker is very load, and fairly good even loud.> If you plug in earphones you have to raise the volume to near max to hear anything. At max the volume is very "fiddly", a slight change and it is much louder or much less loud. If you pull out the headphone jack, without lowering the volume first, the speaker will probably tear itself apart and deafen anybody in the same room.> Large for a pocketable radio; huge for an MP3 player. My little Kaito is only ⅔ the size (in width, height, and thickness) and is truly pocketable. Unless you plan to use the USB/SD card function, the Kaito is a far better radio at a comparable price.> Comes with an installable belt clip – but beware that if you install it, it is difficult/impossible to uninstall.> There is a "line in" connector, which (with a 3.5mm male to male audio cord) you can the radio/player as a speaker for your cellphone or another mp3 player, even for your computer, etc.> There is a "line out" connector, which (with a 3.5mm male to male audio cord) you can use for headphones, or to external speakers, your sound system, etc.> Click on “Stoney” just below the product title to see my other reviews. A hidden gem in the vast sea of MP3 players
This is a very good MP3 player which includes FM/AM radio.I have used many high end Android phones etc but I needed something to play my MP3s from an SD card and this device does it really well.A few points that aren't too apparent from the description:- The display is a simple LED display which goes off after 30-40 seconds to save power (excellent !)- The volume is an analog rotary on the side which is Awesome ! Some of the other devices which have a digital volume button either share it with track fwd/back (horrible) or don't go low enough (vol 1 is too loud). This one is perfect.- The ON/OFF switch on top is also perfect. No holding buttons for few seconds etc. It either switches the device on, or the flashlight (not both at the same time).- Battery is removable, a Nokia BL-5C which is easily available.- Hold the play button for a few seconds in FM (or AM) and it will scan and save the stations into memory. Then you can just punch in the memory channel directly or hit the FWD button to channel surf.- Good normal pull out Antenna ! Ironically this is missing from a lot of devices similar to this- The speaker is a traditional pocket radio speaker. No bass radiator etc and the volume is pretty loud (although within expectation).- Battery came fully charged and I've used it for about 2 hours so far. I haven't charged it yet.1 minor Con (for me that's a great positive): The micro-SD card when inserted goes in pretty deep. I had to use a small box cutter carefully to pull it out again. This maybe unique to the piece I have but I'm glad its this way. I have 2 kids below 4 and that's 1 less thing that they can pull and yank. Its a very well built simple music player, build quality is also pretty solid and no creaks or flex in the device.Hope the review helps !

The sound quality is better than my $200 bluetooth speaker and the channels come ...
At first I was a bit scared when I seen the box this little radio comes in, but as soon as I took it out and used it my fears were immediately replaced by excitement. This little radio packs a huge punch and does so much. The sound quality is better than my $200 bluetooth speaker and the channels come in much more clear than even my car! The battery is very good, but my only complaint would be that I have no way of knowing when it's about to die. There's no flashing or warning, but it seems to be lasting for about 10 hours a day of continuous use. I work at home so I have it turned on all day in my office and just plug it in when I'm done for the night. I unplug the next day and it lasts all day long. This radio is great if you're looking for a simple AM/FM radio or as a great inexpensive speaker for your phone. I highly recommend!
