The Confections: Names and Descriptions
Let me just start off by saying, I had no idea of what to really expect when I purchased this product because there isn't any real description of the product and there aren't too many reviews right now either. All I knew was that these were Japanese confections. At first I thought they were like cookies or biscuits, or rice cakes or something, but that's not exactly the case. The confections are basically a thin outer layer of sweet roll/bread and then contain different types of sugary paste fillings inside. There are five different types of treats included:(name on wrapper) or (rough translation) (# in package)抹茶まんじゅう or green tea bun (5)そばまんじゅう or buckwheat (soba) bun (5)乳菓 or milk cake? (4)桃山 or momoyama or pureed white azuki bean paste? (2)栗まん or Kuriman or chestnut bun(2)My favorite was definitely the chestnut bun. Green tea buns and soba buns were a tie for second favorite. Momoyama would be a distant third. And I'd have to say the milk cake was my least favorite. It was just a little too sweet I think, but not a bad flavor. These treats are definitely something you want to eat slowly, in small bites. Having some nice tea to drink with them would probably be a good idea too. The paste fillings can be very sweet, with the consistency of very fine, wet powder. It's slightly grainy if you roll it on your tongue. I often found myself needing something to drink between nibbles to manage the sweetness sticking in my mouth.I would definitely consider buying this again if I wanted to have a special treat with my tea. I think it would make a nice gift too for someone interested in japanese sweets.

I love them; they're best for taking to lunch or having with tea
I've bought these a few times. One of my friends brought something very similar back as a souvenir from Disney and I fell in love with these odd little sweet treats. I was going to say desserts, but these really are the best paired with unsweet tea. You just don't realize how sweet they are if you're trying to have them with soda or what have you. The flavors are mild and they ARE surprisingly sweet, but in a different way than say, buttercream frosting or cookies. Each one is individually wrapped, which makes them perfect to take with you to lunch or gift one or two to someone. It also makes it just slightly harder and more guilt-inducing if you say, want to eat like half the bag at once... Which I'll admit to, but it's really not the ideal way to savor them.I've shared these with my coworkers a few times (along with another pack of similar treats from the same company), with mostly positive responses. Some people say they're a bit too dry, or find the flavors too strange for them, but by and large, people have been willing to try them and are pleasantly surprised, wanting to where I got them. Usually I do serve them to people with tea (green, oolong, or white ideally) and the combo just works really well together.

Size of a quarter. Yummy. sweet. perfect with tea.
So i just received these and i got them days before the expected amazon arrival date. it said arriving tuesday and i got them thursday. A+ for shipping.Let me start off by saying, these are not HUGE confectionaries. they are really small. about the size of a quarter and the bigger ones are about the size (or a little bigger) than a half dollar coin (USA)They are very dence and heavy. my least favorite one was the matcha green tea.my favorite one is the one next to the green tea in the pink wrapper. those are awesome. All in all, this really lets you taste something totally different and new. There are some that are really fantastic.I would reccomend these. Try them and see what you like the most!on a side note, the wrappers they come in are awesome. they're glossy thick clear wrappers and they have a little corner to lift up and unwrap them. awesome!!!!!

Not happy
Received this item and was really excited until i opened it up and found that about half of the cakes inside were moldy and clearly not edible. Can't find a way to contact the seller either... Not impressed. I attached a photo of the ones you can visibly see the mold from my phones camera.

Delicious
I'm very happy with my purchase of these little cakes! My sister introduced me to Japanese confections like these at Toraya in NYC (which has since closed). The individual packaging is great so that they stay fresh once you open the outer wrapper. They were all soft and tasted fresh. The value is excellent, as a smaller assortment I purchased in San Francisco was almost triple the price of this, and I'd say the quality was comparable.

Delicate and delightful!
I love these! They are processed and packaged treats, so they will taste different from fresh treats you can get in Japan, but they are still very nice. I will be ordering again so family and friends can try them. They are very sweet, so they might not be to your liking if you don't like ultra sweet desserts. Mine seemed fresh with no signs of staleness or mold, although a few were on the dry side. They are sweet and soft mini buns/cakes if anyone is wondering about their consistency.

These were so amazing and fun to eat
I can't begin to describe how excited I was to get this in the mail. These were so amazing and fun to eat. I loved how they were individually wrapped and the presentation. There was just enough to share with family and friends. The green tea cakes/cookies were amazing. It was satisfying biting into it and seeing the green inside of it. There were even ones with bits of fruit in them! There were so many different kinds! There wasn't a single one I didn't like and I just wanted more when I was done. It wasn't too long of a wait for shipping and they were in great condition when I got them in the mail. I most certainly plan on buying these again!

Great for School Party
I bought these for a party my daughter was having in middle school. She was supposed to bring real international food. These are individually wrapped, so they worked well, and the price was right. The class liked most of the candies - a couple didn't go over so good. Fast delivery and fresh.
