A Gem in Discrete Mathematics
This book is a captivating journey into the foundational principles of computer science and engineering. With clear yet sophisticated prose, Ross adeptly makes complex concepts accessible. While a touch more rigour in proofs and extra exercise solutions would enhance its value, the book's engaging content and historical insights make it a valuable asset for learners exploring the world of discrete mathematics. Thank you, Amazon, for delivering this enriching book.

Truly excellent textbook.
Fabulously well-written book. I felt like the author was my friend and it made learning to write proofs absolutely painless. I couldn’t recommend this book enough. It’s seriously one of the best textbooks I’ve ever read, if not The Best.

Understandable
I haven't looked at maths since I was around 17 in school, I am now 25 entering postgraduate studies in computer science. I have worked as a programmer for some years. I do not rate myself as a strong mathematician, and I have found this book easy to follow, and rewarding. It does not presuppose any more than a basic mathematical grounding, starting with fairly basic reminders such as "recall that an integer is even if it is twice some integer" and quickly progressing on to more advanced topics, which are all explained one step at a time, introducing new concepts and reinforcing previously introduced ones.Contrary to other reviews, there *are* in fact answers in the back to every other question. Each section ends with several questions. These can be hard but they allow you to make sure you fully grasp the content before moving on.It's not a book to dip into. It's more like an intensive course in book-form. In fact it does seem rather that authors simply combined their lecture notes and wrote them up into book form - eg page 22: "That's probably enough for today. Give these ideas a try and let me know how it goes. And speak up in class if you see that we need to go over something". But that doesn't detract (in fact it makes the author appear more human!) and adds to the atmosphere of it being a taught course not a reference book.I would recommend it.

Its a good math textbook
I'm writing this review because I see a lot of negative reviews of it on amazon. Really, its actually among some of the better math texts I have encountered. It assumes you have had some prior exposure to the subjects discussed, which I will admit are some of the most maligned in mathematics. I actually enjoyed the book, I think so many people miss out on the author's sense of humor.Math is a participatory sport. There are rules to be followed, if you understand them its fun, if you don't, spend some time with your instructor asking questions until you do. You are paying for the class, get your money's worth. There is a good review of the necessary concepts to complete each section, it helps to refresh your memory. Each section is short and goes by quickly, but some of the questions really delve your knowledge of the principals involved. I even went to see my instructor regularly :)
