Hardy Boys Set - Books 1-58

Package arrived quickly and protected extremely well. All the books were in phenomenal condition, so I am very thankful!

I bought this complete Hardy Boys collection for my adult son, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and severe IDD. He cannot read at all, cannot speak without AAC, and even with AAC his communication is limited. But he LOVES stories. He loves being read to. He loves listening. He loves having someone sit with him and give him their attention while they tell him a story. Reading aloud is not simply our substitute for something he cannot do independently. It is something he genuinely enjoys. So yes, naturally I bought a man who cannot read 58 hardcover books. There is a system. One of his disabled adult companions can read independently, and she LOVES to read. These are also stories I loved when I was growing up. They were already classics when I discovered them, so there was something especially cool about buying the whole collection and finding a way for another generation to enjoy them. I made his friend a deal. She gets access to the entire collection. All 58 books. She can read whichever ones she wants, whenever she wants. She absolutely does not have to read every book to him, nor does she have to include him every time she wants to read. The trade-off is that every once in a while, she reads one aloud to him. She gets what amounts to her own private Hardy Boys library. He gets mysteries, stories, companionship, and one of his favorite things in the world: someone spending time with him and reading to him. And I somehow managed to make one fairly expensive book purchase entertain two disabled adults in completely different ways. I am calling that excellent resource allocation. The set itself is substantial. Fifty-eight hardcover books is not a cute little collection you casually tuck onto a shelf. This is basically a Hardy Boys annex. I bought some books and accidentally established a highly specialized lending library. But that is exactly why this set works so well for us. My son will never independently pick up one of these books and read the words on the page. His severe IDD and limited communication also mean he cannot give us a traditional book report afterward. He does not need to. We know he loves attention. We know he loves listening to people. We know he loves hearing stories. We know he loves being read to. There are a lot of different ways to enjoy a book. His friend gets 58 mysteries to read. My son gets 58 mysteries someone can share with him. I get to pass along stories I loved as a kid. Everybody wins. Her library card just comes with one unusual condition: Every once in a while, the audiobook has to be performed live.

We were SO pleased with this purchase. The books are in very, very good condition. They arrived very fast and were packaged for mailing with care. The books were fairly priced for the year printed. Even though they are previously loved books, they are still in great condition. Wonderful going through them and reading the ones that have inscriptions in them. Because they are Hardy Boys books, many have sweet inscriptions from grandparents to their grandchildren. A thank you to the seller for being so prompt, offering a fair price, and taking care in packaging.

everything went well. Good experience
