Have only had this blanket for less than a week, but, so far, it works fine. It is a very thick and very warm blanket on its own. So warm, in fact, that I only turn it on for a short while before going to bed to heat it up a bit and then have to turn it off because, otherwise, I get too hot! Very nice satin edging at the top too, and the entire blanket is attractive since the wires really don't show up AT ALL. This is definitely nicer than any other blanket out there made by Sunbeam (of which I've owned several - and they NEVER last!) or other manufacturers which all seem to be using that thin, velvety, polyester material for their blankets where you can easily see and FEEL the wires. I really like that the controls DON'T stay lit up because they don't keep me awake with extra unnecessary light like the other blanket controls do. All in all, I LOVE this blanket. If it ends up not lasting, I'll edit the review, but since this blanket comes with a 5 YEAR WARRANTY for heaven's sake, I don't see that ever happening. *fingers crossed*

The manual states: "We recommend washing before initial use."The blanket had the smell of new plastic, in my opinion. When I ran my hands over the surface, I could feel a residue of some type. I removed it from the bed after a few days and noticed that pre-washing was recommended. It did look nice and heated well, but I don't think a customer should be expected to pre-wash a new blanket to feel comfortable using it...especially a king size electric blanket. I would not order, again, nor would I recommend purchasing.

both sides work well. they get warm pretty fast. I would not recommend washing it. It may never work quite as good if you do

I’ve had mine for about a year or two and I absolutely love it!!! It keeps me warm and comfy, I totally recommend this and I will be buying another. I was very apprehensive about washing it because it being a heated blanket, I washed it in the delicate cycle with cold water and very little fabric softener and detergent. Then I dried it in the gentle cycle with low heat and yes it still works great!!

I've used it without heat, and heated to #5 and down to #2. It keeps me warm, and helps me sleep deeply, when the window beside my bed makes the room so cold the heater can't keep up (ducting fault in design, put by door not window). I've tried other electric blankets and their wiring is so far apart you can feel the cold between them. This one is toasty and very heavy. It would not work if you want something light weight. Best I've ever had.After a week of use with heating it, I would warn folks that it the timer only works up to 9.5 hours; the setting above it is 1.0 and goes to 1.2, and it will turn off then.Also, do the warmth setting last, as messing with the timer without checking the warmth resulted in getting toasted at level 8 instead of the 5 I set it at, and I had to turn it down and stick arms and legs out from under the covers until it cooled down (an hour or more in the middle of the night).It is also only King sized and is about 6 inches to short for a Cal King, so needs extra fabric sewn on to be able to tuck it in and keep your feet warm when you dangle them over the foot of the bed (which you need to do as it is so heavy).

This is a great blanket. I generally turn it on to pre-warm the blanket then turn it off the rest of the night because the blanket is so warm. Excellent quality blanket.

This is our 3rd Shavel electric blanket, the previous 2 were just great, loved how much warmth they produced.This one is a disappointment, just lukewarm and shuts itself off after 30 minutes and has to be turned on again and again.

I wanted to love this product. I have searched high and low for a good electric blanket, one that doesn't spark blue in the middle of the night like when I was I kid. It was the 70s, there wasn't much regulation, what can I say? Anyway, this blanket did not deliver. It NEVER GETS WARM. I can never tell if it's on or not. I know it's not supposed to be ultra hot, but it should be at least noticeable on HIGH whether or not it's working. I like the texture of the blanket, but absolutely would not buy one of these. I previously purchased from this company and the last blanket broke in less than a year. I thought it was just a fluke. Nope! This is way too expensive to take a risk and maybe get one that works? I 98% would not recommend.
