Fun for kids.
My nine year old grandson liked his.. It was a decent price, it was easy to put together. The gel the ants climb through was a bit different than what I was used to, but it was actually a bit educational because it allowed us to see how the ants have their different compartments, such as a graveyard. Who knew?! It is made of a plexiglass type plastic design with a slide for the ants, it was pretty durable, but the ants died after a bit, so there's that. It does not come with ants, so you have to catch your own. Good luck! Overall, it is fun!

Perfect for what it is
This ant farm is awesome functions well and itโs fun to watch the ants. We bought it for our 5 year old and he loves it! We may even buy another one to attach and make it larger! - it does Not come with ants (as the description says. We bought ours from the suggested website and they worked well. - per other reviewers suggestion, we scuffed up the middle tube to help give the ants some grip because it is slippery. I do think it helped, as our ants can get to the top using it.

Its ok but our ants didnt like the gel
Looks cool, easy to set up. Our ants dont like it and wont burrow in it. The tube that goes from the top down threw the gel to the feeding chamber the ants really struggle going up it with the smooth sides, the feeding chamber has a pit in it that food can get dropped in and stuck, the feeding chamber is difficult to clean old food out of if any gets left behind because it has an upper and lower chamber and only a tiny square cut that goes between them. For the most part the design is alright for a cheaper ant farm but I wish we would have gotten it with sand instead of gel.

Worth it
Home was great. Ants got delivered to slowly and most were dead upon arrival

Worked out great. Looks like lots of fun.
Set up wasn't difficult. I bought two. I cut one tube in half to connect them side by side. Then connected the "feeding areas" to the tunneling area. I poked holes ( ended up slits) in the gel as suggested on comments section. The tubes of ants were cold ( arrived 2 days earlier), so they poured readily, one tube into each section. I placed the water cotton and a small bit of food. Only 4 ants were dead right off. They are very active. I can only post one video, but it took them ( one side only at first) an hour and a half to figure out how to get to the feeding area. Early on, I also put a small pinch of bread on top the gel at both ends of both setups. I figured they had to be hungry after being in the test tube for about 4 -5 days. Then I removed it a couple hours later. Overall, everyone is excited to see what they do, if anything, over night. ( 4 hours later they had tunneled down in the corner of one side. ) Great past time. The only problem I see is the lids to the feeding areas are VERY loose. Watch your kids that they don't bump it off and release the ants. By the way, I didn't get bitten or stung, and I had to pick one up about 6 or 8 times! Be careful though.

Waste of my money. It is killing my ants.
Ants can not climb the tubes connected from the top of the gel to the feeding area. They also are not tunneling into the gel even with me making several hole for them to start with. They much prefer the sand farm I have and are carrying the sand through the straight tube and putting over the gel. I have feed them down in the feeding area and they have yet to find the food even the honey that is in this area. I wish I would not have wasted my personal money on this for my classroom. I have lost half of the 50 ants I purchase to use between the two connected farms. I put half of the ant in the gel and they have done nothing but fall down the tubes.

Exciting Ant Farm!
My little boys and I love this ant farm! It gives the ants space to demonstrate their skills at building tunnels and running around. And when their normal lifespans expire, it is simple to wash everything out and start over with fresh sand and new ants.

Not a great ant farm.
We bought this thinking it would be great for my 5 year old grandson to see how the ants build their tunnels and make it their home. Well the concept was great but to me it is a big fail. The Ants had troubles getting thru the gel and ended up dying. I returned the product with the dead ants in it for them to see.

smaller in size
Pro: it has a complicated lay out which is fun for ants and comes with whole tool set to watch, observe and sustain. Cons it is relatively small about a palm size i would expext it to be bigger You will have to order or catch big size ants ( best place to find them on the beach- sprinkle some crumbs and wait) itherwise small ants can escape and ruin the whole experience
