Great rack for the truck,
I read the other reviews and I agree with just about all of them. I needed a rack for my F-250's bed so I can take our bikes on vacation. I wanted them upright and didn't like the hitch carrier we use on our car and I needed something that was easily removeable. When it came in, I found the instructions were a little vague on the lack of a third full size spacer for the rack. The rack seemed adjustable, but I couldn't figure it out. I called Heininger and they were very helpful and all I had to do was "coax" the middle uprights together on the back frame a little with a rubber mallet to get the front together to lock it in place. Heininger was right, the additional spacer is not needed, the instructions were a little lacking on this info though. The rack doesn't seem adjustable with the full size spacers right out of the box, but it is. You will need a strap to keep the bikes upright as they will move some driving, but as another reviewer posted, it's no big deal. Take your time mounting it and make sure it hits the bed with the rubber feet well. It's a little tough on my Ford with the curves on the bed at the bottom, but it works. Overall, I like it a lot, it fits the need I had. The fact it is removeable, easy to put together (with the above exception), and has the the security cable to lock everything to the truck is great. And the fact Heininger was so helpful when I called is a big plus too.

Easy On!
For being "universal" they did the best they could with the installation. It is pretty much easy on, but if someone wants to steal it...easy off. But I attached some anti-theft locking brackets to it so that it would be a challenge to get off. As far as the use...It works fine with my bikes (32" beach cruiser, 26" mountain bike and 2 20" bmx dirt bikes). It has a tire locking clamp that slides down to grip the tire and once engaged, the bikes are fairly stable. I still need to run a strap across the frame to solidify the tie down, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I follow the recommended method of loading the bikes with the rear wheel to the rack and there is a slight issue of the chain hitting the rack, but it doesn't get in the way. Once it hits, I clamp it in that position and done. My 32" beach cruiser, I have to go in front tire first because I have a long fender on the rear that I wouldn't dare put through the rack, but it ties down just fine. Overall, I am happy with this purchase. Makes my life just a little bit easier when it comes to transporting my bikes around.

Works great
I purchased this bike rack for my full-sized chevy silverado pickup with a roll back tonneau cover. It fit perfectly just below the tonneau rail on my truck. I leave it installed all the time and can still roll my cover open and closed. When the tonneau is rolled closed you can not tell that the rack is installed in the bed. I haul 2 adult size mountain/hybrid bikes and 2 kids mountain/hybrid bikes and it works well. I use a ratcheting strap wrapped around each bike seat and connected to the chevy bed hooks. I have been on a couple camping trips and had no movement from the 4 bikes. Perfect. I find that the bike cable supplied with the bike rack is too short for my setup, so I use 2 bike cables to lock my 4 bikes to the truck.

great idea and good for the price but a bit on cheap side
I wanted a bike rack for my ford F150 truck bed. I have a trailer hitch model and also a car trunk model but my wife has trouble with either of those. Something like this looked promising as she hopefully could just park the wheel in the rack and be gone. Not so. It was a pain to assemble this rack and get it "even" so that it would sit well. Then cranking it into the bed was not bad for me but no way will my wife be able to heave this into the truck bed and do it herself. one of her bikes is one of those beach cruiser types with fenders. Doesn't fit. A slim road bike is no problem. Also the clamp down bar on the wheel doesn't hold well. I used bungee cords and tie downs from corner to corner like I was transporting a motorcycle. Material wise it is cheap metal prone to rust. I will wait and see how long it lasts and I will have to paint it often. for the price with free shipping I am not complaining. I can use it and will but not the ease I thought.

Pretty cheep and flimsy. Not for all bikes!
All in all this is not a good product. Good in theory but does not physically make the cut. Let me elaborate.... It will not handle road bikes or anything with a 29" tire or more. (mine is 32). Next... even if it did hold it. the metal bars that come down and your wheel goes in between hits either your sprocket or brake disc. (like mine). with smaller tires there would be less distance so it would definitely hit. I don't want my gears or breaks banging around against metal durning my trip. The angle of the supports are to great and creates to much depth. a kids bmx bike would probably be ok but thats it. OK...Next... The little supports that slide down and are suppose to lock the tire in, come down on the back side of the wheel. It never hits the top or more so it really doesn't lock in anything. your bike will still just pull straight out. I know I tried it. Even look at the pictures supplied by the manufacturer on the box. The supports are behind the wheel. They are truly useless. I tightened it to the sides of my truck and the metal beams just continue to flex inward from the pressure. They are pretty thin and don't have much rigidity. All in all it is not what I hoped it would be. Its pretty cheep and flimsy. I would not feel safe traveling with my bikes secured to this rack. Hope this helps.

Good travel set up
I have a family of bikes I haul around in a full sized pickup. First off, this is a good functional rack, with a few things to note about using it. First, don't be captain obvious and put the front tire of your bike in the rack (and then post a picture of it)...the first turn you make your bike is toast but this should be common sense. Second, as you travel there will be bumps and turns so your bikes need to be tightly secure in the rack. You do this by inserting the BACK tire into the rack and lowering the top piece down onto your tire hard enough to feel a little flex in the tire and then securing the locking screw. Your bikes should be locked in pretty good if you do this. Third, don't be afraid to use the threaded bolts with the cups attached to get this as tight as possible in your truck bed. To get the best fit, find where the sides of your truck bed are the flattest. In my truck, the best place is where the tail gate closes and I have plenty of room for the lengths of my bikes with a 6.75' bed. Lastly, although I can secure my bikes into the rack pretty well, I would NOT trust this in a very short truck bed where I can't close the gate with the bikes inside. If you have to keep your truck gate open while the bikes are on the rack...find another solution so you don't lose a bike rolling out the bed of your truck. I've used this for several long distance trips where my truck is pulling a camper and I don't trust our bikes on a bumper carrier. The only problem I've ever had was with a bald rear bike tire sliding out of the rack. Otherwise this has been an excellent solution for a family of mountain bikes. I've also used this to haul a single bike, and I would suggest you use a bungee cord around your front tire through the seat post to keep the front tire from swaying side to the side (but with enough bikes in the bed this isn't a problem).

disappointed
Bought this rack because it's suppose to hold up to 4 bikes, however, I had problems with it holding my one bike. Like the fact that it fits in the bed of my truck, but the design is better suited to be used as a regular bike rack for your garage. 1st off, if you have a mountain bike the tire is too wide for the foam rollers to be effective in securing the wheel, just not enough room to wedge between tire and rack frame. If you try to position the rollers and then back the bike in, the rollers rotate and come off. A hassle. 2nd, you have to place the bike in rear wheel first and to get it in far enough you have to crank the derailleur forward. Can mess with the alignment of rear derailleur. Didn't like that at all. If you don't secure the front tire forget about keeping the bike vertical. Even after securing the front tire, foam rollers and even using a cable and lock to secure the bike to the rack I still had to hold the bike with my hand by reaching out my back window whenever I made a turn. If you have a ten speed or road bike with narrow tires I don't know how you are going to keep it from falling/leaning over when turning, possibly bending your rim and the foam rollers are not wide enough to secure a skinny tire. Stopped using rack after two trips. For my money I consider it a waste. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I doubt it. Tried several different solutions but came up with the same result. Very disappointing. Gave it a two stars because it is simple to put together and the cable that is supplied for locking the rack up so it does not get stolen is nice.

U have decision to be made
I bought this after needing something other than the traditional bungee cords to hold my bikes in bed of truck. While 2 bikes with 2 bungees worked fine (one one each side of truckbed).I researched MANY ideas out there and finally saw this product. While a bit pricey, and yes, you can make the same item from pvc tubing for 1/3 the cost. I gave this a shot. The video on set up is great to watch, but it doesn't really take a Mater's Degree to set up. What I like about this is you can carry 4 bikes. I have a 2005 Silverado Shortbed and one drawback is that with 4 adult bikes, I have to leave tailgate down . With 2 bikes, just turn the wheels (I load my bikes back tires to front of truck, since rear of bikes have a bit more weight due to gears) and close tailgate, with 4 adult bikes , you can't, children's bikes no problem. And, I like how they have weld on loops on side, so you can secure with cable or Ulocks to bed of truck. Now we all know , if someone wants your stuff, they're going to try to take it...But lock rack to truckbed, LOCK bikes through frames AND tires and you'll get more compliments than heartaches. I leave mine in all spring /summer, and with soft tonneau cover, it's not an issue. Good product , just a bit pricey

Exactly as described. Worked great, and easily unassembled for storage in original box.
Easy to assemble, easy to install in my full size pickup. (I was transporting 4 e-bikes so they were heavy so I did use a ratchet strap through all the rear wheels for extra security). Overall very pleased with the purchase.

Limited use.
This rack has some limits; it will not accommodate wheels larger than 26" or wider than 2.375"; it will not accommodate disc brakes, and bikes must be loaded backwards with the rear wheel in the rack,so care must be taken to avoid damaging the rear derailleur. If your bike collection fits these limits, this looks like a good solution.

Perfect rack for my purposes
Very pleased with this purchase. This is a strong frame and should work well in transporting our two bikes in the back of our F150. Easy to assemble, instructions were reasonable. Overall a good product for the sale price.
