Get you one
Picked up a new laptop unit for a good price. After unpacking it found that it did nothave a disc player nor a place to install one. Researched and found this little externalfor a good price and ordered it. It arrived from the company in three days via regular USPSshipping, a very good turn around time. While waiting for it to arrive, read further reviewsand found that it came with two USB leads (data and power). This was a bit disconsording sincemy laptop only had two USB ports. Well, when I connected it to the laptop, it was recognized justas an internal drive would have been. Ran it though the paces and it works fine, reads and playsmovies, cd's, file cd's and also writes to disc without installing any other drvers. Also avery big plus is that it will work with only the data USB cord connected, no need for the powercord. Its looks and construction is very good. For the price of this unit why pay a couple ofhundred dollars more for a laptop with a player installed. I would certainly buy another if needed

Cheap alternative to replacing a DVD/CD drive
My DVD/CD drive on my laptop ended up failing about six months ago, leaving me stranded when my laptop needed to be reformatted. Fortunately, there was zero issues with my laptop staying compatible with the external DVD/CD drive. There were some very vague instructions, but it's essentially straightforward. For anybody who isn't quite as tech-savvy, there's four pieces to this package. Two USB cords, one driver CD, and the external DVD/CD drive.-The two USB cords are for separate uses, but they both need to be plugged in. One gives the DVD/CD drive power, the other transmits information or allows it to "talk" to your computer.-The driver is for the ancient Windows 98 (the box monitor with the loading footsteps/hourglass that you would play Solitaire on. Remember that one?)-And the DVD/CD drive itselfThe DVD/CD drive is meant to be plugged in and it works from there with newer Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.) With Windows 98, you need to use the CD it came with first.

cBear External USB DVD/CD-ROM RW Drive for Netbook, Choice of Colors
I ordered a cBear External CD-ROM/DVD RW Drive for Netbook, Choice of Colors. It arrived well ahead of time; works very well; is easy to use. I could not be happier with its performance. cBear enclosed sufficient information for this plug and play item. The good folks at cBear should really emphasize how light weight it is and takes up very little space on a desk. It also travels well. Now, I do have to add that my Acer Netbook is Onyx Blue (like Midnight Blue) so the color choice option was important to me as a second concern. cBear has a very good range of color options for this. I did get to browse some of their other products when I was searching for this external drive. The good folks at cBear have a good selection. I am definitely considering cBear first for any other computer accessory needs. Great customer service and very prompt. I like these guys.

Don't Purchase
I purchased this product for my netbook. I received it, it looked acceptable for a plain black mini external drive. Mine had two plugs needed to plug into the netbook, one for power and the other for performance. I plugged both in and the drive came up on "My Computer" but all the drive would do is click, click, click, and flash orange. While it was flashing orange and clicking, I couldn't even open the door to the drive to take out the disk. I had to use the eject option under my computer to get the thing to open. I turned the video disk over thinking maybe I had inserted the disk incorrectly and it did the same thing. I tried everything I could think of to ensure I was doing everything right to make it work, but it never did. It was very frustrating as I was needing it to go on a trip. I returned the item and got a refund, and that not being handled very well until I finally emailed the seller and told him I was going to leave him such negative feedback - that is when he contacted me about the problem. I ended up finding a wonderful mini external usb drive, made my Polaroid, clamshell in design with glossy black piano finish, very small and quite sturdier than this one. Anyway, the Polaroid drive worked terrific and made me happy. I purchased this mini Polaroid external drive at [...]. They have excellent products, support, and deals all the time. I use Amazon all the time for purchasing things and this product was the very first one that turned out to be a lemon. Maybe I was just an unlucky one to get one the didn't work right but there you have it, my experience with this product.
