Higher, Further, Faster (Captain Marvel)

Enjoyable Backstory
Higher, Further, Faster tells of Carol Danvers’ first steps into the United States Airforce Academy beginning with her first day and the remainder of her first year over the space of 20 chapters. The book provides deeper insight into her friendship with Maria Rambeau, how they both acquired their pilots licences and introduces a small group of side characters at the Airforce Academy.Overall this is a nicely presented book in its hardback form with a glossy dust sleeve. The only thing that brings the book down for me is that it is written in first person perspective from Carol’s point of view. Other than that, this is a really enjoyable story for anyone looking to flesh out Carol’s earlier beginnings and to enjoy some more banter with Maria.

Not a graphic novel
It doesn't say anywhere in the description that it's a novel. So there are no illustrations, the only artwork you will get is the dust jacket, and if you lose that, you will be left with a boring grey hardback cover.I haven't read the story yet, but I will come back for an additional review.Edit: I have now given it a 5 stars up from 3 because the story is really enjoyable and fun!

A surprisingly decent read
A surprisingly decent read, this story of Carol Danvers' first year at flight academy.OK, that sounds really condescending. I have to confess I only read this novel because it came free with my 'Captain Marvel' DVD and, a year later, I'm having a book-declutter and wanted a light read to relax my brain. So my expectations were low but, within a dozen pages I was completely engaged. Liza Palmer has captured Danvers' humour and lightness of tone, and the secondary characters come to life nicely enough to make the young pilot's progress through training and overcoming of prejudice an enjoyable voyage. There are no Captain Marvel moments here, but the formation of Danvers' friendship with Maria Rambeau are beautifully depicted, and the whole thing is an unexpected pleasure.

Written like a fan fic
I find this book to lack the fun factor there are some good moments but it mostly feels and reads like a fan fiction
