The finish is formulated to repel most household solvents. Stains can be cleaned off with finger nail polish remover or bleach, neither of these two substances can hurt the finish. Although the finish is durable, it will scratch and using the surface as a cutting board will degrade the finish. The wonderful feature of butcher block is that a light sanding of the effected area and an application of "Good Stuff" brings the block back to is original condition. Because the block is solid through and through you can rest assured that the nicks, dings and dents that life puts into the block can be repaired with simple techniques. Excellent product and excellent seller!
My husband bought this product back in the 80's for his counter tops. We are now replacing our counters 30+ years later and these are the counters we want. I can not express how pleased we have been with these counter tops, the quality and durability have been outstanding throughout all these years of day to day use. The wood ages gracefully and we have never had a problem. The only issue I will note, and it is not the manufacturer's fault, is we had an above counter sink. Constant water use over the years has a way of staining black this beautiful wood. Perhaps more diligent care would have avoided this problem, I can't say. We are now going to try a drop down sink and seal the wood with their recommended product. Also, this seller has done an outstanding job of answers all of my ongoing questions in a timely and concise manner. Our first new counter top arrived today, it is GORGEOUS!!!! Worth every extra penny for this fine quality.

Looks good, very solid, but finish quite fragile.
Bought to use as a desktop. Very solid look and feel, underside can have blemishes (like knots)Edges are real sharp. I went over all edges with a 1/8" roundover router bit and then sanded with 320grit, then refinished with Watco butcherblock wipe-on oil. Looks and feels real good.Using it as counter... dunno. The thin film finish is fragile, scratches quite easily. Not an issue for desktop use, but it definitely would not stand up to the kind of abuse our quartz kitchen counters endure. I would buy unfinished or just sand this finish off and use a penetrating one.

Butcher Block
We used it as a top for a butcher block kitchen island we designed and built. We are happy with the results.

Poor quality
Installed this about a year ago for a kitchen counter. The seal was very thin and has not prevented staining which is a big disappointment. Counter needs to be sanded and resealed. For the price thought the quality would have been better.
