This is a great book. the book arrived on time, actually before the delivery date. I was so happy to receive this book. I have learned a great deal of information on sailing about this book. I learned the fundamentals that i needed in order to pursue sailing as a carrier, and as a hobby. I am a sailor during the weekends and this book gave me very may key points, and lessons that i will use while i am sailing. The book is very sturdy and arrived in great condition. the book was not damaged at all by shipping and handling. This book has very many official instructions and advice on how to sail properly, and how to keep yourself and others safe while you are sailing. This book is not only great for beginners however it is also great for experts or people who are intermediate sailors. the reason is because, there is a great deal of information , and pointers that could help you while you are sailing. you will love this book , i highly recommend it !

Great for early on sailing instruction

I used this book as a companion book to another text for learning to sail on the Hudson, and I found it to be a thorough and informative text, with all basic information on rules of the road, parts of a boat, parts of a sail, rigging, water safety and rules of the road.As a beginning sailor, learning on a responsive boat with a sail and a jib, I would recommend this book to anyone learning to sail smaller craft and slower craft. By my second lesson, this book and the companion I used allowed me to gain the comfort necessary to prepare for my basic keelboat certification.

Well written and covers all the important topics.

This was a gift for my husband. He loves it! He's dreamed of getting into sailing for many years. During the long winter months here in Wisconsin, it's great to do the "behind the book" training before sailing season begins. The book has good illustrations and seems to cover all the basics. Including many things we hadn't thought of before that could save our necks in tight situations. Hopefully we can get out on the lakes with some hand's on training this summer.

Sailing has been a passion of mine for over 30 years, so I finally decided to buck up and get ASA certified. This is the required text, and covers basic sailing and basic coastal cruising. I learn sooo much!! The book is very well-written and easy to understand, with just enough occasional humor.

We are using this as our text book for my Basic Keelboat and Basic Coastal Cruising certifications. The descriptions and diagrams are very clear and it was a real help to me before my class and on the first certification test. Im sure I will read this one multiple times as I advance in my sailing adventures. Seems more tailored for beginners, but Im sure more veteran sailors would get something out of it.

Very good book. I have just started reading this book and am on page 30 currently. I like this book, because it is straight forward. If you are completely new to the topic of sailing, like I am, you might find some of the basic terminology that is casually used in the first few chapters confusing. The important thing is to re-read chapters before moving on and also if you don't understand a term used in the book, make sure to look it up so that you solidify your understanding of the author is trying to tell you.This is such a good book that you can actually try to get a basic boat and set sail on a small body of water after reading this book with understanding.

Good book, concise. It lets you know what you need for a good start in sailing. If you need a more extensive covered subject, it's not for you.
