Malibu 120 watt Outdoor 12V AC Low Voltage Transformer for Landscape Light 8100-9120-01

I purchased this Malibu Transformer on July 3rd, and it stopped working on September 3rd. The LED digital display stopped displaying, and the landscape lights won't come on using the photo eye option. It worked fine up until today. When I checked into returning the defective product, I learned that the "support window" was closed on September 1st. (Missed it by 2 days.) I contacted the seller and was told there’s a 1 year warranty. They will be sending me a new unit. I’m giving it 5 stars due to the sellers excellent customer service.

Just not had good luck with this 45 watt transformer. I’ve had three and sent one back. I’ll keep the other two as don’t like sending things back but they failed after just a few weeks. The wiring is fine as I solder all connections. And, I’m way under 45 watts of power needed. I have a larger Malibu -120 watt I think and it works perfectly. So my advice is get a bigger transformer. Large yard and lots of lights so I’ll toss these 45’s out and get another larger xformer.

UPDATE - If your unit fails to operate properly, try disconnecting power for a few minutes to "REBOOT". Leave the lights in the on position to drain down the timer keeper battery. Then plug the unit back in.My unit went into a failed on mode. I thought the photo sensor had failed, ordered a replacement and installed. That did not fix the problem. Upon cycling the power as described above, the unit returned to proper operation. You will note that the 300W model includes a reset button. ORIGINAL REVIEW - I needed a controller that came on at dusk and went off at a pre-specified time each night. This unit has that capability and performs just as desired, combining the photo-cell to turn on at dusk and the internal digital clock to turn off at a set time. My previous Malibu timer incorporated a simple mechanical wheel with trigger stops to set fixed on and off times and needed to be adjusted as day length and dusk time changed. That unit lasted more than 25 yrs before becoming unreliable. The outward quality and case material of the new unit are the same heavy duty plastic as the previous- which is about the only material that will last here beside a pool and brackish waterway.

I bought this unit in July 2019, installed it in August 2019 and it stopped working in September 2019; conveniently after the warranty ran out I might add. How can something like this only have a 30 day warranty? It's a 120-watt low-voltage transformer and its connected to 13, 2-watt landscaping lights so its load is no where near the max 120-watt rating. It was installed exactly to the directions specifications using materials recommended to buy it with on Amazon's site. I called, or should I say used the Amazon call back service which was rather fantastic. The gentleman was very apologetic and tried to be as helpful as one can be sitting a 4x4 cubicle in who knows where but he didn't recommend anything that I hadn't already researched and tried. I'm on hold now as I type this while he is reaching out to the manufacturer on my behalf which is great. No luck with the call but he sent me a link to reach out to the seller. 5 stars for ease of installation, 1 star for value since it stopped working after 5 weeks and I did not rate weatherproof since I'm not sure it stopped working due to weather-related issues. I'll follow up with a response but for now, very disappointed.

Works as advertised however after one month of use, metal hardware is very rusted. I’m not sure why they didn’t use stainless hardware or painted the top of the hinge pin. Probably would not buy again because of this.

The first transformer I received had a faulty "photo sensor"...the device that activates the circuit for low voltage lighting when it gets dark. It did not pass the test in the Malibu instructions. The sensor is a tiny part that plugs into the transformer and can easily be replaced. Malibu gives a part number and customer service number to call to obtain a replacement. Calling that number connected me to a representative (for whom English was not his primary language) who was very insistent on giving me a "free" $100 gift card. All I needed to do was provide some personal information. I did not want a free $100 gift card. I wanted to talk to someone about a replacement Photo Eye. I could not get past this individual, and when I refused to sign up for the card, he hung up on me. I contacted Amazon and the Amazon representative also tried working with the Malibu number without success. Ultimately the heavy and expensive transformer was shipped back to Amazon and Amazon shipped me a replacement transformer. The replacement transformer is working as expected so far. When shopping for this item on Amazon I saw a number of different brands all using images of what appears to be the same product. If the same product is being sold under multiple brand names, I would suggest, based on my experience, selecting a different brand. Perhaps the instruction sheet from a different brand would provide contact information for a legitimate customer service facility should assistance be required.

I purchased this smaller, lower wattage transformer just to run a water feature in my back yard. I wanted to be able to run the pump independently of the landscape lights. This unit was perfect for that as my pump only requires 12 watts.It has all of the same features as the higher wattage Malibu transformer: timer, auto-on/off, auto-on and off after 4, 6 or 8 hours.If you're looking for a low wattage, full featured transformer then this is an excellent choice.

Had to replace a similar Malibu unit that took an indirect hit in a recent lightning storm and was inoperable.(That unit had served us well, working without any problems for 10 years).The replacement Malibu arrived very quickly. I unpacked the package and carefully inspected the transformer. It looked fine.Remove the old Malibu and installed the new one. I set the clock & the timer, and the Photo-sensor. All is working perfectly.
