So far the best shoe for my son
I'm a minimalist runner and triathlete. I've been very selective regarding the footwear my son wears. As he his feet grow, the selection of minimalist shoes grows thinner and thinner. Unlike many brands of shoes out there the Merrell flux glove is true to the minimalist name. The sole appears to be zero drop (not a raised heel) and is very flexible (you can easily fold it in either direction. Also importantly the sole is equally flexible along the length of the shoe so it doesn't have a tendency to kink and pinch his feet. Teh rest of the shoe is very light and flexible as well. Another great feature are the material of the laces, which are in between being able to get knots untied easily and not randomly coming undone all the time. Though I recommend having your kids double knot. I feel this shoe will be a staple for my son in the coming years.

NOT WHAT S PICTURED!
The shoe that I recieved is not what is pictured. This shoe does NOT have the Barefoot sole.I needed new running shoes and got very excited when I found out that Vibrim made Big Kid sizes. These however are more trail oriented or hiking, the have a large jagged grippy front toe area on the sole(bottom view, last photo) instead of the nice rounded smooth foot print pictured.Amazon refunded my money and now I dont have any running shoes. They were well constructed and felt nice on my feet, (I tried them on and wore them in my living area for like 4 minutes before I tripped over the strange nubs and realized they would never work for running if I couldn't even walk in them.)But the photos are misleading. Please take this into mind when ordering.A child may not mind, but as a 22 year old female who wanted a nice pair of running shoes these were unnacceptableThank You for reading, I hope it helps.

Great shoe once we got the right size!
These shoes run very big, and we even used the size chart, we had to send back 2 pairs to finally get the right size. But they are a great shoe for my boys now that we got the correct size. My 7 year old wears them everyday and they look great, his favorite color is green and we were able to get him the green ones for his birthday. We are very active and do a lot of running and hiking and these are holding up great. My older 9 year old son, who is an avid runner (runs over 3 miles everyday at least), had the velcro pair of these and wore them for months of hard use until he outgrew them or they would still be going pretty strong.

order down a half size or more
I usually wear a 8-8.5 in women's but wasn't sure how these would fit so i ordered the size 7 big kid. They were very big on me, so i'm returning them for a size 6 big kid. Five stars because the shoes are great, cute colors (i ordered the wineberry color) and i'm still wanting to re-order! Highly recommend. These are the second pair of barefoot Merrell's I will own!

Good for running
I bought these shoes for my 10 year old son. I had a hard time finding reviews for them for how they held up for older kids, but I bought them anyway. He really liked them for running and gym class, but complained they hurt his feet for going on walks or just every day use. He wore them for a whole calendar year plus 3 months and they only now fell apart. Fantastic quality, and durability for older kids I think. I will probably buy him another pair when he starts track in the fall, but get him a pair of regular shoes for every day.

Wide Shoes
These shoes are pretty wide for my son's regular sized foot. He has to scrunch the laces up real tight which throws off the fun, clean look of these shoes. Also, no matter how many double knots we put in the laces, they just don't stay tied. This problem is not isolated to these shoes, but the laces are not the soft, supple type that stay tied better.

Great Merrell Shoe
I purchased this for the little runner in my life. My four year old is training for her first 5k and I wanted to get her in a proper pair of shoes. She likes the fit and swears they make her faster.
