Chew Volume 8: Family Recipes

Loved it, can't wait for Volume 9!
Tony gets a chance to see Toni again, which is both funny and heart-breaking. We also get stories with Sage, Olive, and Chow. Meanwhile, John is up to no good...and maybe we'll finally get a few answers about the chicken ban and the end of the world? The only downside is waiting a few more months for the next one. I feel like I've forgotten some things about the characters. Like, why didn't Tony learn Toni's ability? Is that not a thing he can do? I know Olive can learn abilities, but Tony's done it before, too. Oh well, I suppose that Tony would be too strong if he could see the future. One last thing--I really wish they could make a live-action version of this with Tony and John played by the actors from LOST that they are based on (Ken Leung and Josh Holloway).

Punch right to the feels part two
CHEW volume eight gets you in the feels again. (It's hard to do these without spoilers, but I'm trying because I really want you to read this series.) Everything about this volume hits the mark - plot development, character development, and Tony gets a nudge back onto the hero's path.Let me ask you a question: what are you doing now? I'm starting CHEW volume nine.

LOVE this graphic novel series!
I can't enough good things about this series of comics. The storyline grabs your hand and sucks you into the plot with great storytelling and witty characters. The illustrations are amazing and filled with easter eggs in just about every panel. If the plot doesn't have me laughing, I'm cracking up with the hidden pop culture references--items from Office Space (reminders about TPS reports come up a lot), Perry from Phineas and Ferb, Portraits of Patrick Swayze and other celebrities, snarky slogans, and just about anything else funny you can think of. I highly recommend it!

POYO!
Chew is a joy to read and a great recommendation to anyone even if they don't read comics. John Layman keeps coming up with great uses for food powers and I can't help but posting splash pages from Rob Guillory's cuts to POYO's adventures. The jokes in the background art are worth the price of admission alone.

The continuing hilarious, macabre adventures of Tony Chu in a foodie world gone mad
This series never disappoints as Tony continues to investigate shadowy conspiracies of vampires, people with extraordinary ingesting abilities and heroic cyborg rooster (EL POYO!!!). In this issue, Tony uses the ingested ghost memories of his deceased twin sister Toni to learn new information. This series is nuts, in such a highly entertaining way.

Fun
I've enjoyed all the Chew stories and I liked this one too. I do wish the story would start moving a bit faster but it's still a very enjoyable read.

cannot get my fill of Chew
We finally understand the family a bit better in this volume. I love the writing and the art so much that in some strange way I keep expecting a disappointment, and I never feel it happen. It just gets better and better.

This menu is getting more adventurous by the minute...
I feel like I should review this, but wow... where do you really begin with a review about Chew?Chew, as anyone who is reading this will no doubt already know, is a weird series. An extremely weird series (in a good way mind) and each time I've had no idea which way the story was going to head (Which for someone who's normally figured out the ending of a book, tv show, game, etc, is quite refreshing). This chapter I liked for focusing on a wide range of characters, such as Olive which was pretty cool, you'll know why when you read it. Another character who we get to find out more about is Toni, she was given more depth which is always nice and I found myself liking her more and more, which made previous events feel even sadder. Finally, after some very interesting characters and powers, we get to see Tony and Colby have another wacky adventure, which somehow managed to make the series feel weirder...and yet managed to keep entirely inline with everything we've seen so far.I've kept the good points quite vague, because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but it is most certainly weird, but I quite like that. One thing I will say, is reread some of the previous books before jumping in, since it took me a couple of moments to realise what was going on.Negative point, as another reviewer has commented, some of the issues seem to get resolved a little too quickly, and my only other niggle is that I'll have to wait a number of months for the next one haha. (I would have rated this at 4.5 but unfortunately, I'm either incompetent, or Amazon doesn't let you.)Now to finish up, it's jam packed and there's plenty of action occurring, and lots of quirky bits and a few references added to a vast number of panels that just add something a bit extra to the series.
