Bouillabaisse - The Best of Fish

All of the ingredients for a great fish dish..

Having already got just about everything Fish did with Marillion I wasn’t quite ready to fully dive (!) into his complete solo catalogue. This would appear to be an excellent alternative. There’s lots here, and it’s all pretty wonderful. Be well, Derek.

After many years of NOT listening to Marillion I found a couple of early albums in my loft. Fish has always been the lead singer as far as I am concerend and it was fantastic to listen to tracks I had never heard before.

I bought this as a replacement having lost my original copy and reckon if you like some of Fish's material this is a great way to delve into work. Worth the price just for the version of Caledonia!

If you haven't got the individual albums then this compilation is an excellent collection of songs.

Like lots of people I bought the first few Fish albums after he left Marillion, but after 'Songs from the Mirror' (which is not a great album) I left him behind.However, I saw him live for the first time a few months ago and decided that I was missing out on something. I therefore bought this album - good move! The album is split into 'Balladeer' and 'Rocketeer' and I have hardly stopped listening to it since. I am gradually working out which of his other albums to buy first. There are some well known Marillion tracks but there are some fantastic songs on both albums, particularly 'Just Good Friends' and 'Cliche' on the ballad album and a whole host of great songs ('Brother 52', 'Clock Moves Sideways' etc etc) on the rocky album.Just sorry I didn't keep on following him

to listen to this guy carefully. I've heard bits and pieces over the years but never really gave him a chance. At some point in the dim and distant past I must have bought into the Marillion / poor man's Genesis thing. Fish deserved better than that. Thankfully a Classic Rock mag sampler with 'Cold day in Hell' put that to rights and I must say this is a great collection of material. OK, maybe it is the pick of the bunch but I find the themes and textures of the material and his delivery to be superb. Next chance I get I will try to catch him live (sorry, that was an unintentional pun). He has a tremendous following here in Germany so I will expect a tour sometime soon. This album is a tremendous buy and is bound to provide many hours of pleasure. It took me some time but I am convert! Bouillabaisse is a very tasty dish indeed and as a double CD something of a main course!

A great collection, with a few of the older Marillion tracks thrown in for good measure.When Fish and Marillion parted company, the pundits screamed that both would disappear without trace. Both however have maintained a hardcore following, with Marillion being one of the best "e-marketed" bands in the world. Still relevant? Absolutely.This collection should please old and new alike. There is something here for everyone-the early solo material like "Big Wedge" & "The Company" still stand head and shoulders above the rest for me, but the later stuff is good to hear to, and the man certainly has not lost his touch

La sélection des titres est superbe, sur le CD 1 (Balladeer ) : comme le nom l'indique, se trouvent les titres les plus calme, puis sur le CD 2 ( Rocketeer ) les plus rythmés. Le plaisir de retrouver le talent de l'ancien chanteur de Marillion . Sans aucun regret de l'avoir acheter.

Als Marillion-Fan der "Misplaced-Childhood"-Zeit bin ich irgendwann mal über die "Ying/Yang" Best of von FISH gestolpert. War eher so ein Billigkauf für ein paar Euro, und auch nur, weil drei Songs des "Childhood"-Albums drauf vertreten waren.Das FISH auch Solo so gut ist, war mir vorab nicht bewusst.Deshalb kam irgendwann mal die Idee, etwas mehr von Herrn Dick zu hören. Diese Best of sollte es dann werden, und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Handwerk & Songwriting gelung, nicht zu verspielt, aber trotzdem progressiv genug, um den bekannten Marillion-Standard zu halten.Kaufen!

First let me say that there are not enough stars available to properly praise this CD. The first disc is the Balladeer and it really shows off the genious that is Fish by placing side by side some of the best ballads of his career. Fish has written some of the very best love songs EVER! Very, very touching and moving to the soul. His wit and gift for words is second to none. These are not poppy ballads that are just gloss, they are firmly grounded tunes based deep in reality and with emotional depth, clarity, and wise lyrics. The kind of thing that you don't get with much of today's music. The second disk is the Rocketeer and of course it rocks with some of Fish's most powerful tunes. An overall view of an extemely talented, wise and gifted man, not to mention an incredible vocalist and performer. Very nice package with great artwork by Mark Wilkinson.

マリリオン脱退直後の第1作「Vigil IN A Wilderness of Mirrors」から2004年の目下のところの最新作「Field of Crows」までの各アルバムの曲を収録したお得な価格帯のベストアルバム。目だった目玉トラックはないが、彼の入門編としては十分の質･量を備えているといえる。シングルになった曲を中心に良心的に選曲されているし、（ソロとしてのリメイク音源だが）マリリオン時代の大ヒット曲「Lavender」「Kayleigh」なども納められている。ファンとしては、こういうベストものには、常に選曲面での不満がつきまとうが、本作にあっても、「Lucky」や「Internal Exile」「Tumbling Down」「Tiki4」「Innocent Party」 などがなんで入っていないのか、などという愚痴も言いたくなるが。選曲そのものでは星３つ程度だが、値段の安さ、デジパック仕様などの付加価値を勘案すると４つ星はつけても良いと思う。

This really is a great collection of music by Fish. It really shows the talent he has and it makes me happy to be a fan.
