A Memoir of Puerto Rico in the 1950s and 60s
I very much enjoyed reading this memoir of a young lady who lived in both Puerto Rico and New Jersey during her childhood. It's a coming-of-age book about her bilingual and bicultural upbringing. She emphasizes at the beginning that she's following Virginia Woolfe in that memory is fungible. So this is her memory and not necessarily the truth.

Family stories
I related to the grandmother stories, because my family tell stories passing down our life experiences. This is a story most people on the island have in common

quick interesting read
I had to read this book for a course at my college. It is a really interesting way for an autobiography to be written. I really enjoyed the intermittent poetry. This is a book you should read if you are interested in bi-culturalism, or how one deals with living in between two cultures (Puerto Rican and American).

There're interesting stories in the book, but I was expecting a little bit more cultural than personal accounts
