can we use this on a painted surface?

Yes, I used it on a piece of furniture I bought that was painted and stinky. I sealed it with this and then painted it with non-toxic paint and we still have it. Good Luck!

Is there a product that will safely seal in voc's and preserve the hard finish on fan blades? i do not like that it is expected to leave a sticky res

I used this product on a press board chair. It sealed it with a solid hard finish.

How long do I have to wait between coats?

I wait until the wood is dry to the touch. From my experience dry wood soaks this up super fast. The first coat for me was like 10 minutes. the second was 30 minutes and the last was 45 minutes until dry

My brand new custom cabinets arrived and I could hardly be in the same room with them. A few days later the laquer smell had dissipated but the interior of the cabinets still had a very strong smell. A strong odor was coming from the cut ends of the melamine shelves. I sealed it with Safe Seal and it helped a lot. Super easy to apply.

It looks invisible for the most part, but didn't decrease the out-gassing smell. Thus, it didn't seal at all. I am going to throw the rest away.

I applied 3 coats to the backside exposed mfg wood of some IKEA shelf inserts. Up close I can still smell the wood. I thought it would do better. I didn't realize until after I received the product and read the full instructions that it a final coat of something else should be applied since the Safecoat could be a little tacky.
