Larger resolution pics on the website, please! (But otherwise, good value product)
This is a good enough product - the three sections can be joined up (pasted to a board or something I presume) to make one long section; having it in sections might suit people who don't plan to use the whole length, so I think this was a good idea. The scene is a photographic reproduction of reasonably good quality and good value for the price. It is printed on stiff semi-glossy poster-style paper (what might be termed 'silk sheen' in the paint industry). I don't know if there is a matt option, but it might be an idea for people who plan to use the background to photograph their models, as the glossy surface may reflect flash or studio lights unrealistically. The scale would suit models for O gauge, 28mm or 1:48 / 56 (the same, just different systems)One bone I'd pick is not with the product itself, but the size of the image online / on the shop website. Even the enlarged image is fairly lo-res, so it's hard to see any detail or get a really good idea of the quality of the photo. I planned to use this backdrop to display my 28mm Wars of the Roses 1400s infantry. Because the website image was so lo-res, and going by the product description, it looked as if it were a long photo of open country, sloping hills, forest - perfect for the medieval period. When I actually unpacked and unrolled it I noticed the large 1900s farmhouse, distant 20th century houses and barbed wire fence...... I wonder how that's going to look alongside Edward IV or Henry VI? The middle section has far less of this (mainly the barbed wire) but it means the other two sections are all but redundant. I'm not sure I'd have gone for it had I been able to view a higher res image online and see those details. On that note, perhaps the manufacturers of these things could note that not all users of scenic backdrops are into model railways. There's a real gap in the market for good-quality scenic backdrops of O gauge that could be used for a variety of different periods. Most seem to be 20th century. Surely there is a patch of countryside somewhere that doesn't have modern housing intruding (or perhaps photoshop would help)?

A Useful Backscene
Compared to what railways back scenes used to be like , this new range of photographic scenes from Gaugemaster are a vast improvement and very versatile. Crisply printed and with a good overall length they are good value for money. The only improvement that could be made is if the three pieces could be designed to be interchangeable , ie joined in any order .
