American Wild Flowers Coloring Book (Dover Flower Coloring Books)

American Wild Flowers Coloring Book Paul E. Kennedy
Not only does this book have 46 pictures to color but it has a color copy for each of them so you can see what the colors should be like for them There is a name for each flower as well as their scientific names under each picture. This book would also be a great gift for someone that loves wildflowers or when a student is learning about them in school. The pictures are on both sides so you want to use a sheet of paper in between so the colors won't bleed over while your coloring or painting on top on one that's already been done. This would be a great teaching book for those interested in wildflowers.

A nice coloring book except for the double-sided pages
A nice coloring book. The flowers are realistic and close to their actual size not enormous and take up the whole page. The only fault that I find is that the pages are double sided. Bummer...Other than that. I would have given it five stars

Wildflowers
I love Dover Coloring books and this one is no exception. I use these coloring books to teach my kids about flowers. Each picture in this coloring book has the name of the flower (common and Latin) and where the plant is from and where it currently grows. The front and back cover contain colored pictures so you can see what colors the flowers actually are.Flowers in the book:Balsam-root, Bee-balm, Black-eyed Susan, Blue Phlox, Bluebells, Bottle-gentian, Buttercup, California-poppy, Cardinal-flower, Cobra-plant, Columbine, Cow-lily, Early Azalea, Flame-Azalea, Goldenrod, Great Laurel, Green-banded Mariposa, Harebell, Indian Paint-Brush, Juck-in-the-pulpit, Marsh-marigold, Mountain-laurel, New England Aster, Pasque-flower, Passion-flower, Pitcher-plant, Prickly Pear, Purple Pentstemon, Show Lady's-slipper, Small Purple Fringed Orchid, Spiderwort, Swamp Iris, Swamp Mallow, Tall Larkspur, Trout Lily, Trumpet-honeysuckle, Trumpet-vine, Turk's-cap-lily, Water-lily, Waxy-leaved thistle, Western Red Lily, Wild Geranium, Wild Lupine, Wild Pink, Willowherb, and Yellow jessamine.

Good easy designs
I like the flower pictures. Very clear. but I do not like that it is on both sides of the pages and I cannot use my fine tip pens. I also don't like that every picture is mostly leaves and maybe one or two flowers. They are easy to do and can be done rather quickly. No stressing over many small details to color. I also like that the book gives you examples of what the flowers really look like.

Fun and educational!
I got 7 of these books and love coloring them. You can get really creative. I don't have an artist's talent, so I enjoy creating my own color combinations, although there are colored pictures of all of them on the covers so you can follow those or come up with your own. These aren't not kids coloring books! They are more detailed, and I use colored pencils on some, fine point gel pens on others and a wide range of felt tip colors on most. I usually do these in the evening when I need to wind down and they work wonders for me. Even without artistic talent, I love my renderings.

We like this book, because of our love of wildflowers and a new found way to appreciate their beauty.
My wife is a recovering stroke victim, who has long had a passion for wild flowers. The expression of coloring these plants is helping her strengthen her visual and muscular control, while her artistic nature is now encouraged to express what she sees in these floral displays. This rating was only four stars because she has only started work in this book. By the end of the book, the rating could very well be higher.

Excellent botanical style outlines to colour.
I waited months for this book to be back in stock but it was worth it because the outline art in this botanical colouring book is outstanding. 46 pages of wild flower outlines, based mainly on botanical prints by Mary Vaux Walcott (plus a few others). This means the outlines are really high quality - lovely compositions. Each is labelled with the common and latin name, and you even get a little colour thumbnail picture of each original painting, to use as a colour guide. Unfortunately the lines are black and quite heavy (note to publishers: heavy black lines are OK for kids' books, but light grey lines for adults please!)Obviously they are American wild flowers so less relevent to us here in the UK (I wish there was a British Wild Flowers equivalent) but what a lovely collection of flower portraits to colour. The paper isn't too bad, but it's pretty thin, and not really suitable for water media, so if you're colouring inside the book, I'd stick to coloured pencils . If you use a lightbox though, these images would be lovely for Inktense or watercolour pencils.
