The Apu Trilogy [Region 1]

Masterpieces of Indian cinema
Satyajit Ray must be India's greatest ever film director and one of the best ever filmmakers. The Apu Trilogy (1955–1959) is of priceless value in the history of film, while Ray's The Music Room (1958) is a work of genius. The first film in this trilogy, Pather Panchali (1955), which means Song of the Little Road, is a deeply moving and humane portrait of rural poverty, shot on a shoestring budget with uncompromising artistic integrity. It is one of my favourite movies of all time, a total one-off. The following two films in the trilogy, Aparajito (the Unvanquished) and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu), continue the story of Apu's coming of age and search for his own identity as a young adult. A totally unforgettable portrait of India and a body of work which took the social role of cinema to new heights, setting the standard for world cinema outside of its domination by the wealthiest nations.
