Great CD.

Donna Summer released several singles that made the top of the charts in the 70s and 80s. The album captures just about all of them.

I already had the "Anthology" as an introduction to an artist who was big when I was at school in the late 70's, Of course, it wasn't cool to be a Clash/Stranglers/Jam fan & admit to likng Donna Summer. So I had to wait til I was in my 40's to own up. "Anthology" was fine as a starter, but only contained the shorter, radio versions of pretty much all of her singles. I ask you - a 3.48 minute version of "I Feel Love" - what's the point? Then I found "The Dance Collection" - "I Feel Love" is up to 8.14 - now we're getting somewhere. Longer versions of "Hot Stuff" & others added to this being a more desirable album for my collection.But I'd heard of the elusive Patrick Cowley remix of 1982, weighing in at a very respectable 15.45." In 1978, disco and Hi-NRG pioneer Patrick Cowley created a 15:45 remix of "I Feel Love" which, despite not impressing Moroder, became a popular "underground classic" available only on acetate discs.[6] The remix used loops, keeping the song's bass-line going for extended passages of overdubbed effects and synthesiser parts " ( Wikipedia)However, I was under the impression that this was only available on vinyl. Then I came across "The Journey". Two CDs, the first one with her greatest hits (the full length versions, not the edited radio versions you're fobbed off with on "Anthology") - and - CD 2, Track 1 "I Feel Love - The Patrick Cowley Mega Mix" 15.53 ------- RESULT !!!!!!You also get the 12" versions of "Hot Stuff", "Love To Love You Baby" , "No More Tears", "On My Radio" etc. But make sure you get the U.K. version - the U.S. release has the 8.15 version of "I Feel Love"I paid nine quid for a very decent second hand copy, I see that you can pick up a copy for about the same - don't even stop to think about it - it's worth it just for CD2 Track 1. Just make sure you get the UK version, the tracks (on CD 1) are longer than the US versionRemember, "I Feel Love" is possibly one of the most important disco/dance records ever. It managed to cross over disco - "Staying Alive" being an example of the time - with synth /electronic "Autobahn" being out around then. Without this track there would probably have never been "Blue Monday". If you want to hear a cracking version, listen to the Faithless Mix on "Renaissance"Play It Loud - Crank Up The Bass

Previously I had only heard a couple of Donna Summers hits, first as a child in the 70s and then in the film the full Monty. This two disc collection is great. On the second disc there is nearly 17 minutes of love to love you baby and nearly 16 minutes of I feel love. What's not to love about that?
