Excellent Guide for Israel and Palestine
This was the best guidebook for Israel, that included Palestine was a huge bonus.I personally wish guidebooks would dump hotel recommendations in favor of adding more background information for sights.I do have a gripe about text point size and would love to see darker text (ink) because like a lot of people, I’m getting old and I had trouble reading it unless there was a bright light. Yes with my glasses,

The only book you will need
Perfect for travel in Israel and the West Bank. Also has like 30 pages dedicated to the history of the region since ancient times.

Poor navigation of Lonely Planet on Kindle
Kindle e-books usually have a tile view that helps you navigate the book, if you need to flip to different pages. Not so with Lonely Planet, it is very hard to find the section you want to flip to. Of all books. It makes the kindle version of the book useless. I returned and got a hard copy.

Well researched and written, balanced guidebook
I used an earlier (mid-90s) version of this book, then bought this one for a trip earlier this year, and on both occassions found it to be a very useful and interesting book to read and follow.I bought a plastic sleeve cover this time, as I ruined the cover last time pulling it in and out of bags.Obviously it's easy to use booking.com for your accomodation bookings these days and it's up to the minute info, but I think you need such a book to accompany any travels, it's invaluable for me.I particularly liked the balanced way they write about the various issues in Israel, and leave it to the readers to decide for themselves.

Don't expect to find this as a definitive guide to Isreal
Sadly this is written by people who 'know' Israe but clearly don't write from the standpoint of the visitor .. perhaps modern Israel and the West bank change too fast but this guide is badly organised provides little insight to obvious important landmarks, Ceasraria, and Damascus beig the most obvious. Need to tighten up Lonely Planet get some good editors with the visitor/Tourist in mind .../ my guide to China in 1995 was all anyone needed, well written, street instructions ans all sorts of tips ... taxi prices in Bethlehem are useful yes but there is just so much missing
