Christianity by the Numbers
One of the leading authorities on the life of Mary Magdalene (MM) renews her thesis by examining the Greek/Hebrew practice of Gematria (converting letters into numbers and examining the meaning of the numbers) and its implications for our understanding of who MM was and what her role was. Starbird draws heavily on the work of John Mitchell (The City of Revelation) to show that MM was the bride of Jesus and that the choice of words (e.g., the Magdalene) reinforces this conclusion. While this is the central thesis of the book, Starbird goes beyond her discussion of MM and delves into some more general concerns facing early Christians and shows how the use of gematria was a second layer of knowledge passed on by the gospel writers. This book is well written and well organized. although it is not a scholarly text as such. Starbird is not examining the gematria theories of Mitchell and others and she tends to accept uncritically some of the assumptions. For example, merely listing the phrases which total 1746 ("grain of mustard seed", "Emmanuel the son of Mary", "Fruit of a vineyard") really tells us nothing, except that the text has been subjected to a mathematical algorithm that extracts such data. Were these phrases written specifically to reflect this number, or was this mere chance? Who can say! Moreover, the practice of adding or subtract 1 or 2 seems to be an example of "fudging" at its best.Putting aside the scientific acceptance of gematria, Starbird uses it to support her theories and to provide us with a fascinating and educational exploration of Mary Magdalene. This book will appeal to people at all levels of inquiry into early Christian life and the life of Jesus and MM. The more information you have going in, the more useful the book will be.

Any book written by Margaret Starbird about this subject is wonderful and definitely worth spending time on
I haven't finished the book yet, but you can rest assured I will! Any book written by Margaret Starbird about this subject is wonderful and definitely worth spending time on. Mary Magdalene and her cause need to be heard around the world. Her true story will change the world. And, as the Lord said, "In the last days, everything hidden will be revealed." That is the reason for all that has come to light about Mary Magdalene and all that is. I, for one, am so grateful for these wonderful writings revealing truths that have been tyrannically suppressed. Suzanne Sneed. I fight for her cause!

Not as expected
Has too much about numbers that is too much to understand. Alot of nonsense. Has no story to it. All over the place.

She did her research and she has such passion about Mary's cause or curse that is amazed me! This book will make you think about
She hit the nail on the head. I have read many books about Mary Magdalene and Jesus and of the books I have read, she is the most accurate. She did her research and she has such passion about Mary's cause or curse that is amazed me! This book will make you think about what the church has done to the lost legacy and the love that was Mary and Yeshua...absolutely brilliant and dead on! Thank you Margaret Starbird!

There is Never Enough Information about Mary Magdalene
This is a compelling story based on a lot of research made by Margaret Starbird, the author. In few of the chapters she gets a little care over on Numerology that might get some people bored. I love all her books including this one!

Exploring Gematria Values
This gives new meaning to many of the phrases in the New Testament of the Bible. Would recommend this book to those exploring spiritual meaning beyond the traditional.

Sublime
