Jeri MassiCrown and Jewel (The Bracken Series)

This is the second, and maybe my favorite, book in the Bracken Trilogy. Excellent reading for young people, I read this series to my children and they love the storyline, writing and suspense. They have a great message woven through them and are a safe book for young people to read on their own.

I enjoyed this book more than the first one in the series because I related to the main character as I was a young tomboy. Very likeable characters in a very imaginative setting.

Amazing book by a wonderful author! I'm a lifelong bookworm, and I absolutely credit Jeri Massi for playing a huge role in sparking that love inside me!

Life got in the way, otherwise I would have finished reading this story sooner. As in the first book, there are lessons to be learned, character and qualities spoken of which I am spurred to adopt. In this second book of the trilogy I was especially struck by the lessons on what true friendship looks like and how suffering and grief, while painful, unpleasant, and often needlessly caused by evil people, can have a good result of wisdom, strength, and growth. There are lessons on humility, courage, and using observation skills to keep safe, amongst many others. So so much.How I love this series. As an adult, I read it with the knowledge of an adult, and I treasure it for its wholesome, unique, and well-written tale. Some might call it "flat" because it is a wholesome adventure, coming of age, historical fantasy tale, with no magic, danger but no gore, and no blending if good and evil, but I call it a cherished heirloom kind of story. I WILL read it to my teens soon, and I KNOW they will like it.
