I prefer the Scalia brand
Just to see if there was any difference, I bought this product and an 800g can of the Scalia brand at the same time. Since they appear to be identical, I was fully prepared to believe they might be the same fish, caught by the same boats, and processed in the same cannery - with the label and marketing as the only difference. I opened both cans and compared the products side-by-side.I think there IS a noticeable difference - and I give the edge to the Scalia brand. The fish packed by Scalia were more likely to be whole and a little more firm. In contrast, most of the Agostino Recca branded fish emerged from the can in pieces. This doubles the time it takes to rinse the fish of the salt in which it is packed, a tedious (but worthwhile) task under the best of circumstances. It also takes more care because the mushiness of the pieces makes them more difficult to handle. An A/B taste test didn't reveal any difference, so I was reluctant to post this review. However, I noticed another reviewer here had the same reaction. So, my experience may not have been a fluke. Both are wonderful products but, all other things (like the price) being equal, I would opt for the Scalia brand because of the appearance of the fish and the much greater convenience in preparation.

Yep, Anchovies.
I don't get it. I appreciate what these are supposed to be, but in reality, they aren't any better than the ultra premium packed in oil brands. A lot of work to clean makes these less interesting. Don't get me wrong, they are good anchovies, but not worth the effort to clean when I can get similar that are ready to eat right out of the package.

Excellent Anchovies
2.2lbs of anchovies may be over the top, but when they are as good as these, then over the top is the place to be. The difference in taste to regular anchovies & these salted one ones is like the difference of filet mignon to a fast food hamburger...unless you LIKE fast food...It may seem expensive to buy this many, however, they last indefinitely, and one will usually take the place of a whole can of the grocery store variety.Yum!

WHOLE anchovies, but excellent!!
This GIANT can of anchovies is an incredible value, but please be aware that they are WHOLE, SALT-PACKED anchovies. They arrived super fast, and they are huge and delicious, but you WILL need to fillet them yourself!! Half the can is salt -- they are VERY salty!! Also, the can is marked "MUST BE REFRIGERATED" but was shipped via standard UPS. I can only hope that it means "Must be refrigerated AFTER OPENING" [emphasis mine]!! :-)

Delicious
Kind of a pain to descale and clean, but worth it. Best bagna cauda ever! And the can is a nice display item. Took out the top layer of fish, covered the rest with salt and covered the can with foil held with a rubber band.

Real Anchovies!
A tad larger than the ones you find at the local grocery store, but they're real anchovies straight from the ocean. I still have a few left and have a big smile on my face when consuming two or three. Easy to cut the tail off and debone. Real anchovies! Yes, money well spent if looking for the real thing.

Awful!
I have purchased salted anchovies in the past that have been light and clean-tasting with bones that could be extracted. In contrast to that, these were on the way out in terms of freshness- very fishy tasting, tons of oil, and almost impossible to separate fish from bones. When I initially popped into the can with my can opener, I was greeted with an explosive spray of oil shooting everywhere!!! After mucking about with bits and pieces once or twice, I ended up chucking the whole can -huge waste of money. There's no way this was going to "last" in terms of edible lifespan, as I am not sure they were right to begin with. Long term "storage" of the remainder was not an issue to be considered.

Perfectly delicious!
An amazing difference from the old canned anchovies! Try them, you'll never go back. Store in a plastic or glass container after opening and you're good to go for a long time, if they last that long!

For those anti anchovy folks, try these. Rinse ...
For those anti anchovy folks, try these. Rinse and clean in water and peel off the 2 fillets. If you still need less of an anchovy flavor, then let the cleaned fillets soak in water for about 30 mins.

These are anchovies?
These anchovies are excellent; nothing like the salty, fishy cousins packed in oil available on a grocers shelf. Instead the taste has depth and character, somewhat like a sardine but with a little more bite. The drawback here is that you must scrape the skin off and "filet" the little fishes, worth the effort in my opinion.

Yum!
Arrived quickly, packaging in good shape. Makes wonderful bagna cauda, and Iook forward to using these as the salt component in many other dishes.

I will not buy this again
I wanted to try these anchovies for the longest time but they are pricey. I broke down and bought them, but I was very disappointed.I just LOVE anchovies. I bought these based upon all of the good reviews. They aren't that great. They are not very meatey, butrather thin after you take the bone out. They also don't have a "rich" flavor like I expected.

SALTY Anchovies
I got these anchovies as a gift for my anchovy-loving boyfriend. While he liked them well enough, they were just too salty to be able to even consider getting through the entire can, even over months. We soaked them in water prior to consumption and that helped, but on the whole I think they would have been more enjoyable with about 1/16th of the salt.

Great salted anchovies
Nothing in this world is perfect, but these anchovies come close. Reminds me of the old country and my mother's foods.
