WEST-B w/CD-ROM (Test Preps) Second Edition, Revised

I bought this book to use to study for my WEST-B test. I read the entire thing through and I honestly believe that it is a great book to prep for the test. It comes with a CD-rom with a full practice test as well as in print in the book. But in the book it also explains why that answer is correct. It goes over many things for reading writing and math. I do however believe that some of the material for the writing section was very confusing and contradicted itself. Overall it gives you a good confidence boost and goes over the little things that we might have not thought about when prepping for the test. Good luck to anyone taking the test, be confident and read this book and you will do great!

Good average review. I certainly did better on the test, than I would have without it, BUT . . .the CD had exactly the same test as in the book -- I thought it was advertising at least 2 different practice tests. Different tests would have been much more helpful. Especially, since the CD test even had a few typos on it. In two cases, the sentence that was supposed to contain the error was already corrected. In another case, the book had the right answer, but the wrong explanation, and the CD had the wrong answer and only part of the right explanation. Some of the reading/writing questions were very ambiguous and subjective. Once I got a question wrong because I picked an answer actually stated in the reading, instead of "implied". However, a later questions did exactly the opposite. As for the math, it was a lot easier on the actual test than the practice test, but had 3 questions on a term called "mode" in it that was not covered anywhere in the test prep.

I passed the 3 exams. I just did the exercises. The book also offers detailed explanation if you need help with a specific area (for example, geometry).

This is a mediocre trainer, at best. The problems included in the book are considerably more difficult than what is actually found on the WEST-B, particularly on the mathematics subtest, and concepts are explained poorly and with an extreme lack of clarity. It was kind of helpful for review, and I'm sure that I did slightly better on the test than I would have without it, but you can find a multitude of resources of comparable quality on the internet (and the WEST website itself is really the best resource, even though it only has a few practice questions for each subtest). I would recommend this book only if you have money to spare on it. Otherwise, save your cash and look online.

I bought this specifically to help me with the math which it did not do. The practice exam for math was almost completely different than the actual WEST-B, the practice test was much easier and never even touched on most of the math problems that were in the actual test. The Reading test was easy and so was the practice test so I guess that was fairly accurate and I don't know about the writing practice test because I didn't take it. There should be more than one practice test, not the same one on two different formats (paper and digital). This was not a good study guide, I would not recommend it.

This is a great resource to pass the West-B test. The study disc has several questions that are almost exactly like ones that show up on the test. I would say that before you buy this book that you check your local library for a copy because after you pass the test you will never use this book again.

Do not purchase if you have an apple, the CD does not work.

This is an adequate trainer for the WEST-B. However, if you are a person of competence, I recommend taking the test first and reviewing those questions you were uncertain about or chose an incorrect answer for. It was adequate in explanation and carried all the circumstance of a standardized test.
